Welcome to the forum! This is a great place with great folks and most of your questions can be answered here!
Re True Tone, I read that they've moved around the corner? I went there quit a few times when I lived out there and it was a very cool store at that time, especially before they expanded to the building next door. Right before COVID closed their doors they were bought out, but I hadn't heard much from them since then. I live in Texas now, but I sure hope they are doing alright. Back to your regularly scheduled thread!

Yea. I'm not sure. It is my first dealings with them, but they seem to be on top of it like some of the other stores i've had good online deals with like MGL, Music Zoo etc. I have never been to the brick and mortar but I have a pedal company friend they are a dealer for and they he said they were good people. As long as the amp shows up packed well I'll be happy'
Thanks for the welcome. I should have joined a long time ago but I just always researched as a guest. Spent some time on the phone today with Do n and decided I need to stop being in denial and admit I'm an addict... 🤣

Sorry, I don't know which Michael might've owned that one, but it sure does look cool in that color scheme (the black knobs & gray/black grillcloth with the surf green tolex). NICE AMP!

To my knowledge, only Humbucker Music in Georgia sold Z amps in that color. That might be s start.

So the Z Lux arrived Monday as expected, but something was off about how it sounded. After a lot of tests, I've narrowed it down to the 16ohm Z12 speaker it shipped with being faulty. As some of you may have read, I currently own a Maz Jr and 1x12 with an 8ohm Z12 in it. I was able to compare the Zlux through the 16ohm it came with vs. my 8ohm and noticed a huge difference in low-mid, mid range punch. Felt like something was way off. FWIW - I didn't even think to compare until I heard the amp initially and how bright/thin/brittle it sounded.
Things I tried: - Measured the speakers. 15.3 and 7.7 - Swapped the speakers to the opposite cab. (same result, 16ohm sounded thin and brittle in the extension cab while the 8ohm sounds full in the Lux combo) - Changed harnesses - Wired it backwards to eliminate the 16ohm output being backwards in the amp - ran the 8ohm tap into the 16ohm speaker - ran the Maz at 16ohm into the 16ohm speaker (now the maz sounded thin and brittle)
Finally decided that it's one of two things. Either the 16ohm speaker is faulty, or my 8ohm Z12 is the best sounding option that's ever been released to the public. I took some audio and sent it to Don so he could hear what I was hearing. Even through an iPhone capture, with compression happening, He could tell the 16ohm just loses everything and becomes brittle.
BUT... Much love to him and Sheree at Dr. Z, who were able and willing to make a concession and sell me a new Z12 (something they do not do anymore). Truetone was kind of enough to reimburse me for the difference after listening to the audio and agreeing, something wasn't right. Fingers crossed the new 8ohm Z12 will bring on the girth and all will be right with the world next week!

So I've been frequenting the forum for a bit and I came across my initial thread about the Z-lux and thought I'd post an update.
This amp is probably the best combo amp I've ever owned. When you put your ideal guitar bridge pickup through it, I can't really describe it without using some goofy buzzwords. The best way to put it "3D". It's not string separation, it just feels like the perfect amount of every frequency coming through the speaker. There is no scoop or spike. I know I'm speaking to a biased crowd here on the the forum, but that's just fine by me.
I've been playing the amp for almost 3 months and I continued to be impressed. I'm fortunate enough to play a lot of gear, but man. This thing is the real deal.
As you were, friends. Cheers!
