Hey EMS bro’s thought I’d check in. I’ve been really digging the EMS lately with an open back 1x12 cream speaker cab. It’s a borrowed cab but I’m thinking of ordering one, just not sure which yet.

a cream cab? What speaker is in it?
The EMS is a great amp, we enjoy mine at my house
Usually run it thru a Zbest. Haven't tried an open back cab though . . . might need too!

This video is pretty stupid, but some EMS sounds I was fooling with a little while ago. Listening back, I think I rolled off too much low end, like the hi pass filter on my mic pre was probably around 115hz. Probably about right with a band recording, but the amp by itself is really kind of this sound, but a lot thicker. Amp was running into a captor x, 800 side with the gain and master around 9:30. In that range with paf style les Paul, there's quite a big range of clean to grind just in how hard you pick. There's an H9 delay for ambiance after the captor, and a EH phaser and Keely compressor in front of the amp that go on a couple times. I had no intention of sharing it, but what the hell.

I still haven’t laid my hands on the EMS. I loved my Remedy but when I got a 75 50watt JMP I sold it. Kinda kicking myself now.

I was playing around with my EMS and CAZ the other day. Lucky you, but that' all you got? I had sort of an interesting go around the other day. Bright idea being make the "studio" a fun jam room. Moved the drums to the center of the room, setup the mackie pa stuff as the main pa sort of facing back in stereo towards the drums at some distance. The older stuff before class d amps, a couple srm450's and 1501 sub fed via dbx drive rack and a dbx feedback eliminator thing (works way better than the one in the drive rack). Pink'd the room, etc. a couple qsc k10.2's for vocal monitors facing the other way with another feedback eliminator thing. Basically total overkill. Setup a few Z's with open back 1x12 and 2x12 cabs to the side of the drums (so the drummer can hear them acoustically). Also setup a 4x12 on one side (my side) kind of by the pa facing back to the drums and put a splawn and Ghia there through a Marshall 1960av with 2 v30's and h30's. Sounds great, one is over the top distortion huge and one beautiful clean. Anyway, got the idea to throw another 4x12 (greenbacks) on the other side by the pa, like a triangle to the drums with the same idea it being some other marshallish fire breather thing. Started with a Friedman pink taco and an engnater hand wired 800 thing and didn't like those. They just didn't have it for whatever reason like the placement in the room or who knows. Tried the caz and that really worked well, except I really just mostly like it high gain and wanted something that could approach cleaner better. So out comes the Ems and holy crap did that thing sound fantastic. Where I liked it felt too loud, like turning down the master a little lost some magic and tried the air brake and I felt that lost a little something too. But holy crap did that amp sound nice there with that cab in that spot. Just everything there in clarity and punch and nothing shrill or whatever, but still extended highs and lows. Like remember I'm trying to make this work in a little basement and not a stage. Anyway, took out the maz18 into that 4x12 with the gain cranked and holy crap, there it was. Just killer crunch tone at a manageable volume for a small space. It's always fun for me to mess with this stuff. The quality of tone out of the z's wasn't just a little apparent, it's like 3d to 2d. Sometimes you don't appreciate that stuff until you bang it against other stuff. The other observation in general is that if you take say a 40 or 50 watt "open" amp and place it in a smallish area, particularly the z's, boy they have a lot of power. Like picking hard can blow your head off, but the lower wattage say maz18 doesn't have that same sheer horsepower of transient and is extremely useful in a smaller space. I guess they are all tools or instrument designed for a purpose. But, boy was that ems godlike and still plenty of horsepower to spare. But also maybe most happy about the maz18 in that role of a Marshall crunch thing, boy did that sound fantastic. The amp swapping on that side stopped there. I guess I'm just sharing some observations of sound in my little basement studio.

Nice playing and tone-dialing on the Frampton medley. Something's Happening / underrated tune. I'd like to hear this with something like a Strymon Lex subbed in for the EH phaser (or maybe in addition to the EH).
