I've got a MAZ 18R MK II that's less than a year old. About a week ago it started making a crackling/sizzling noise. After thoroughly cleaning all connections, sockets, tubes, pots, etc. and checking components one-by-one I have tracked the noise to the reverb pot.
If I turn the pot to zero (no reverb) the amp is as quiet as can be. If I increase the reverb in the slightest, the noise begins. The noise is louder when I turn the reverb up or when I turn the master volume up.
I've even tried disconnecting the reverb tank, but the noise is still there so I'm pretty sure it's the pot.
Any ideas for a cure that I've missed are appreciated.

Hi if you've not done so already please take a minute to register your 18 drzamps.com/support/registration/next, please send a recorded clip of the noise you're getting to repairs@drzamps.com listen before hitting sending to make sure the clip is representative of what you've been experiencing also a couple quick questions - is there reverb on the noise or does the noise seem very dry and upfront ? is the noise a sort of scratchy record, wind noise on a mic kind of thing that's fairly continuous once it starts ? if there's no reverb on the noise itself and you have a spare 12AX7/ECC83 tupe preamp tube, use it to replace V4 preamp tube ( 4th counting from the input end ) and see if the noise changes if there IS reverb on the noise the problem may be in V3 ( third preamp tube from the input end ) let me know what you find and we'll go from there thanks Don Depew DRZ Repairs 216-475-1962

I'm glad Don chimed in. When I saw your title, I almost starting typing before reading your post. I realized your post was saying exactly what I was thinking in terms of cleaning, etc.
I'll be curious as to the cause. I rarely use my Maz Jr's reverb. I seem to remember a while back, I was getting some noise and traced it to the reverb being turned up. I haven't done the due diligence you have.

I want to give a big shout out to Don with Dr. Z Repairs. The problem was fixed in a matter of a few hours using only email and phone. You couldn't ask for better or more personal service. I love my MAZ 18 and now I love the company too.
GuitarZ - Give Don a call. I bet he can fix your reverb too.

Very cool. It’s time for me to dial up the reverb to see if it’s still there.
