Hey gang. I have a maz 18 with mk2 mods. It has a celestian g12h-30. Is this the stock speaker? I’m new to the speaker rabbit hole and I am learning celestian model nomenclature. I’m pretty sure g is guitar, 12 is the diameter. Not sure what “h” is. Pretty sure 30 is the wattage.
Anyone have any insight? And is this just a vintage 30?
Thx in advance

It is not a V30. The g12-h30 is a speaker with big bass, crispy highs but recessed mids. I've never cared for it, but doc puts them in a lot of his amps. The V30 has a massive upper mid spike in tone. Some like it, some don't. Very different sounding speakers.

When Celestion uses H in its designation it refers to the magnet being Heavy. (50oz) The M indicates a 35oz magnet. ME

V30 would have Vintage 30 printed on the magnet sticker. I've seen brand new Maz 18's in stores with V30, but I think the normal stock Maz speaker is the G12H-30.
I play my amps clean and for me, the G12H-30 doesn't have enough mids. I like the Maz with one of my V30 speakers and liked it the best with a Greenback, or good Greenback clone. Maz already has a lot of lows and the G12H gave it too much. Greenback has less lows and more mids. Really fills the amp in for me. Again, this is playing 100% clean but turned up enough to get the tubes working.

^^^ This
I too gravitated towards the greenback. Not with just the Maz Jr...but with many amps. Less bass and it's a bit mid focused, but not overdone or a spike in any particular mid frequency. Right in that 'guitar frequency' range.

Also way less efficient ( i.e. lower volume ) , a bit reedy , less clean and smoother breakup, and less weight. Better suited for rock tones , less Fender/VOX tones . Both speakers I like and use in combo's , just what is works better for sonic need. I do disagree with too much Bass on the G 12-H it is well balanced IMHO. Z

I have tried several speakers in the MAZ since 2011 with Mk I and now with MK II. Z 12, V30, Gold and landed back on G12H30, as it seems to cover more tone variety than the others. I play mostly clean with some hair and occasional boosts/OD to bring on more grit. At home, with cab on floor, it is more bass heavy, but when in iso cab, miked, it is bright as ever and have to up the bass, and drop treble. Settings about 11-11;30 on Master, about noon on Vol, others set to ears. Have fun swapping them out. so many out there...

No, not quite. Actually H = large 50 oz. magnet. There is a "heritage" version of this speaker, but that's not what the H is for. Zed --With Celestion speakers, the "G" up front stands for "guitar," and they're pretty much all G speakers for our assumed guitar-amp usage today. Yes, the 12 means 12-in. diameter; so, a G12 Blue is 12" whereas a G10 Gold is 10", for instance. The letter code after the 10 or 12 (or 8 or 15!) goes as such: 35-oz. magnet speakers usually get "M," but sometimes "T"; 50-oz. magnet speakers are either "H" or "K" [e.g., the G12H-30 and G12K-100 share the same magnet size]. There are many other letter codes too, but these tend to be the most common for guitar-amp usage. And then, at the end of a speaker's designation code, the number after hyphen will be the power rating in RMS Watts. Does Celestion sometimes violate this alpha-numeric code/designation pattern? Yes, they do. Because the "30" in "Vintage 30" means the 30th anniversary of their release of G12 Blue alnico speaker from the 1960's. So... are you confused? Yeah, it's confusing!

I see your G12H/V30 question has been answered, but I'll throw this in: There are a ton of speakers that will "work" with the MAZ...I've tried probably a half-dozen or so over a period of about 10 years in my MAZ 18 combo, just experimenting. Several alnicos, including the Gold, didn't impress me. A WGS ET-65 is my favorite of all, very balanced low/mid/high, and it lets the MAZ shine in its natural glory, particularly with single-coils. Currently I'm breaking in a Celestion Neo Creamback with that amp...so far, not bad. (Nice to shave off about 4-5 lbs. too.)
