I've got a new baby Maz combo here that rattles. I've tightened screws... I think I just may need to retension the sockets (the power tubes seem to rock a little more than they ought to)... any other thoughts about non obvious rattling? Also, once I retension the sockets, has anyone in the forum ever just discarded the tube retainers? I suspect they might be a contributing factor...

"Rattle in the Back" sounds like the next hit rap song to hit the airwaves...

Rattleback would be a fine band name, if it isn't already.

It's probably one of the tubes. If you can make it rattle on a specific note repeatedly try and lightly touch one of the tubes (on the top) while playing the note and see if it changes or goes away.

I have had rattles from a loose handle too. So you may want to check the tightness of the handle screws.

Yeah, I've dealt with that before, although last night I saw someone using a looper to play a resonant note to induce the rattle for easier location. I'm taking her out tonight to play in a decent sized room, so maybe a larger room will do away with small room resonant tones. I also should grab a set of spanky new 84s.

Not only the handle screws, but sometimes the caps over them work themselves loose and only need to be pressed back down. Make sure you don't have any speaker wires or the bypass switch wires up against the speaker. My guess though is a tube. I've never had a problem with the tube retainers. They generally fit very tight. You can try the amp with them removed or pulled off, but with a combo, I wouldn't get rid of them since the tubes are facing down and between gravity and playing vibration, one might vibrate loose.
One other thing, you seem to have posted this in the Mazerati section and not the Maz jr. I'd repost it there if you don't get it figured out quickly.

This is a Maz that was rehoused in a cabinet... the logo and labels are all upside down. The on/off and standby switches both point DOWN when powered up. And for good measure, there's an MV/Cut mod on the back. So it's no Jr or Maz per se, just the sooped Carmen Ghia like Mazerati...
I DID find that the big chassis bolts on top of the cab had about a quarter turn of slack... I tightened those up. I'll find out if THAT was enough to handle the rattling!
