Hi guys, it's been a while. I'm a former owner of a Z-Lux (and a Max 8, a Therapy and a Cure). I sold it a few years ago because I felt it couldn't give its full potential at home use (which is still certainly right). Now my situation has changed, since I received an Ox amp Box a few days ago... I'm really enjoying this new piece of gear and have the best headphones experience I ever had and of course it reminds me that the best amp I have ever played was the Z-Lux, so I might consider buying a new one. Now to my question: how can I be sure the one I buy has all the recent upgrades? My old one didn't of course, but I'd be thrilled to have an even better master volume and reverb. Thanks for your help.

Thank you very much Stephen, I wasn't aware of this page on Doc's website!

Thanks for your help. I'm loving my Z-Lux. The upgrade made a really good difference, and I've found that it's just perfect for church praise band. Everything from sweet clean to meaty grind. And I'm not really a reverb guy but it sounds great. If you liked it before you'll love it now. Good to see you again, I've missed you!

Thank you for the kind words Dave! I've kept an eye on this forum. When you have tasted Dr Z goodness, you don't quit that easily! I have really good memories of the Max 8 (my first step into the high end amps world) and the Therapy, but my favorite hands down is the Z-Lux. So much it's hard to believe v2 is better than v1! ;-) Now finding one in Europe (230V) will not be easy...

I love my Z-Lux too. It is a newer one so it has the upgrades. Not wanting to add more GAS but it pairs really well with my Z-28 MKII so I have been using both recently.

Never tried the Z-28... Not easy to find one in Paris! But I'd like to, for sure.

Can anyone tell me the difference between a current Lux and one with Don's MKII updates? For example, do the newer ones have the black\silver switch, voicing change, and noise reduction of Don's mods? If so, from what date? I've seen pictures of supposedly current ones but no black\silver switch I can see. The other changes wouldn't be visible, Thanks.

I think the only way to get the switch is to send a chassis to the factory for the upgrade. I don’t think they offer it on new builds.

The switch is a such a subtle mod that we don't offer it on stock amps, and also, Don will likely dissuade you from sending a new production Z-LUX from the last couple years JUST for the switch. It's a feel difference more than anything. If you send an older amp in for an update, then it's worth considering.

Thanks Frankie. I have the Black\Silver switch on my EZG from Don's MKII update so I know it well by now and not having it on a potential Z-Lux would be fine. Is there any external way to tell the newer factory MKII Lux from the original without the MKII changes? I'm not in a position to drop $3K on a brand new one so I would just want to be able to ID a MKII from a used amp ad.
