I've had the Jr Wreck Combo over a year, new from SW. Picking up my main guitar today after a Plek I decided to bring home a used Quantum Silver they had in!
Thoughts after a few hours...
The 2x12 cab is bigger and fuller sounding than a single gold (Duh). That being said the single Gold sounds fantastic. I used the Gold in my DB4 combo.
1/2 power comfort setting is still way more punchy and stiffer than the Junior. This setting is WAY cleaner louder than the Junior at a similar volume.
Any power setting is a more extended top and bottom than the Junior. The Junior has more Low mid.
As said many times, this amp is easy to dial a great sound, and gets That BP sound no problem.
It's loud. Louder than the DB4 I think. Even 1/2 power is just stout thanks to the speakers.
1/2 power is not really breaking up any faster.
The Junior is fantastic, and like doc said, more woody or reedy sounding with smooth breakup. The Big Wreck is truly a beast if you play it that way. The Junior can get the tippy top end like the Big Amp if you turn to cut up some, but it's the alnico speaker that seems to give that real presence. The little amp feels very close and sounds pretty close to the big one. It's pretty obvious when you have both in the same room that are in the same family, but if you want "That sound" it's the Big Wreck all the way.
To get the same amount of just breaking up tone, the Big Amp on 1/2 power will be quite a bit louder. If you need a bit more headroom than the Junior, and want more punch, this amp is it.
Right now I think I still prefer the Jr, but I've had it a while and it gets used almost daily. The Jr is just not quite clean enough for my live stuff at stage volume. The Jr is more Vintage sounding for sure. If thats even a thing. I still absolutely love this amp.
Anyhow, lots of people wandering about these 2 amps and which to get. Thought I would post my own findings...
The Jr is not quite loud enough for me, and the Big wreck might be too loud lol.
