Just wondering if anyone has found a suitable Tung-Sol equivalent for V2? I will admit that my best sounding Z28 of three has a TS in V2, but with also having a GT5AR4 rectifier tube, I can't put my finger on exactly why this amp sounds better than the other two. But anyway, Tung-Sols are definitely up there in price right now ($35ish), so I was wondering if anyone found a suitable equivalent in the $20 range.
Thank you!

V2 is the phase inverter, right? Maybe try a Sovtek 12AX7LPS there--they've been regarded as affordable, readily available, and good-sounding for many years now.

This is form the website's Tube and Bias Info page
Z28
V1: NOS EF86, V2: Tung Sol 12AX7, V3/4: JJ 6V6 (matched pair), V5: Sovtek 5AR4
Recommended Bias Point: 28mA
My guess it is just a regular Tung Sol. The Sovtek LPS is about $29. Either way you will have to pay. Pre-amp tubes last a very long time. It's the power and rectifier tubes that go quicker. JJ's are about $20 a pop but I would stick with what the DR said.

Just buy what sounds good and if your sound is based on a specific tube then you need to pony up. In short “Go with what you know”.
