Does anyone know if it is possible to convert a maz 38 with permanent cord to the type used now with the detachable cord? Thanks for any info--Jester

You would need an IEC receptacle (jack) and would need to cut the rear of the chassis to mount it. It would be a good idea to remove the board and nearby wires to make sure you don’t destroy the innards. Then of course wire up the IEC.

You should really cut the hole with a punch, but that isn't cheap!

Definitely take your time and don’t take any chances, like I did with a homebuild. Needed another hole in the rear of the chassis so decided I’d be real careful with the drill and not remove the wires that were near where I was drilling. As you’re probably expecting, the bit went through the chassis and got tangled in the nearby wires, ripping them out of the board and twisting the entire chassis into a rats nest.

You should really cut the hole with a punch, but that isn't cheap! In lieu of a panel punch you can use a nibbler and they don't cost all that much. Plus a dedicated punch would probably get used just that one time where there are other uses for a nibbler if you are a do-it-yourself guy. www.parts-express.com/Nickel-Plated-Nibbling-Tool-360-022?quantity=1

I’m not sure this can be done. Something I read about Dr. Z stating that something was in the wrong place. My advice is to ask the good Dr.

This sure looks like it is not a job for me, thanks everyone for the advice. Adios! You are correct. That is a huge task, one that I wouldn't attempt, on a built working chassis . Z

Maybe a compromise would be to cut the cord within about 3-4" from the chassis and install a male IEC Cord end. Then you could plug a detachable cord into it.

I had not thought of going that route. Thanks for the advice. What about that Doc?

I had not thought of going that route. Thanks for the advice. What about that Doc? Not wild about it. Certainly not ETL approved. I'm going to show my age and use a 1950's term " Ruib Goldberg " . I believe if you can't do something correct , don't do it at all. Z

Thanks everyone for the advice. Best to leave well enough alone, especially if the good Doctor does not approve, plus it will save me from losing power cord or forgetting to bring it which has happened. Thanks again everyone. Adios!
