Are there good books available to learn the basics of how guitar amplifiers work? At this point I can't allocate the time to a specific study of electronics. On the other hand, I want to know how my Z-Plus and guitar amplifiers in general, work. What book or books should I start with?

I found "The Amp Book" by Donald Brosnac a good place to start.

The Guitar Amplifier Handbook by Dave Hunter made it click for me.

There's a guy with a good website online, Rob Robinette. He's got a good page on amp functionality. Also, check this out: tone-lizard.com/ I've spent some time there and he's got some good info to parse through. There's a section about VTVMs that outlines how to check for leaky coupling capacitors that is good information.

I am checking out all these sources and everything else that comes through, then I'm going to set up a budget to purchase a nice little library. It may take a little while, but then I can't read it all at once anyway! -steamroller-

Definitely download the Trainwreck Pages. Another useful and free resource. I keep a PDF copy for reference on every device.

For some reason he dropped of my radar a few years ago. He is VERY informative. I just recently started reading him again. Convinced me I needed to pull out my Eico VTVM and refurb it.

A good one is Designing Tube Preamps for Guitar and Bass by Merlin Blencowe.

Also check out a guy on Youtube - Uncle Doug - who has posted a number of videos about tube amps.
