Hello folks.
So, long time Maz user...... got a strange thing happening with my old 18 NR.
I'll turn it on, let it warm up, and flip the standby off and it's got an odd static hiss....... fluctuates a bit..... volume changes with either the volume knob or the master knob.........
But then..... if I slip the standby off for a moment and then back on, the noise is gone and the the amp is back to baseline noise floor.
Possible tube issue or something more sinister?
Edit: It's quite inconsistent too.... Happens some days and not others....

Definitely sounds like tube issues to me. I think the elements in one or more of the tubes are heating up and making contacts that otherwise don’t when cold. Could be any of the tubes; when was your last retube?

tube, clean the tube sockets while you it apart. Nothing like a good cleaning to help with static issues

Noise coming from the Maz? Take some lessons? (sorry, couldn't resist)
Like others have said, sounds like a tube or socket issue.

Perhaps there is some oxidation on the sockets and pots. Dr. Z talks about this in his annual maintenance video. Search…

Ok. Pulled all the tubes and gave everything a good shot of cleaner. All the tubes are relatively fresh..... did some back and forth with the PI just to be sure (PI is the only tube I've ever lost in the Maz.....knock on wood).
Got a bit of a scare when I put all the tubes back in that there was no sound at all...... turned out to be the rectifier wasn't seated properly...
Wasn't sure what to think where a simple toggle of the standby would correct it...... Not the kind of gremlin I want to go chasing.
Anyway, hopefully that's it!
Thanks for the suggestions folks!
