My first Z love was a Ghia. Way down the road I had a Ghia and a Maz 18 nr mkii at the same time. That Ghia wasn't as magical as my first love, but I could get what I needed. I needed one or the other and it came down to I could pretty near dial that Ghia tone I loved in with the Maz and a bunch of others that I loved. Maz wins.
A little bit beyond that and I still have the 18 and picked up a studio 38. Totally planning to swap the amps, keep a studio 18 and sell the bigger 38. Except the 38 had everything the 18 had and even more. Never swapped and the 38 will be mine forever.
Recently brought home a Nova. Wonderful. So much fun. Clean, grind, grit. Love it. Here's the thing, with a pedal or two it ends up being a similar situation to the Ghia. I can make my Maz 38 sound pretty close to the Nova.
So as I consider my long term needs, I could use two amps. Maybe not as much for unique sounds as for convince. My regular commitment is playing at church and most of the time that is with my acoustic. But I would pretty much never play electric there if it meant pulling everything from the house. Should I just shoot for another 38, maybe a different speaker configuration to mix it up, or is there another Dr Z compliment that wows you in the same way as the Maz, but maybe in a different way?
I've also had a Therapy and a Cure. Never much bonded with either. I think the biggest temptation to consider anything else would be a Wreck or the Jr. But honestly mostly because of the respect it gets as the daddy of all Z's. Help me out here. Two Maz 38 or one and a...

Seems you lean towards amps with EL84…..but, besides the ZWreck jr , I would think about a ZPlus due to its 15 or 7 watt setting and built in reverb. A Monza can be a fun little amp….if you like amps that overdrive more like a fuzz.

Definitely the Z28 MKII. It's just a completely different flavor than the Maz or any other Z amp. The EF-86 front end lends a clarity and a shimmer that I don't get with any other amp.

That would be a have to play it first. When I had my Therapy I was going though my "I think I really like 6v6 amp" phase. Had a few different ones and while there was an aspect I liked about each didn't play a 6v6 that I liked for everything like the Maz. Clean/dirty, quiet/loud, with that power tube something would always not sound right for me.

I think I'm spoiled and also need onboard reverb. The verb on the mk ii is so nice.

How about a Z-Plus. Close enough to the MAZ, but different. Try a studio cabinet, if your Maz is full size or vice versa.

If your local to wny maybe come try it out? I may want to sell it and grab a wreck jr or a ghia. I ave a maz 18 mk 2 as well.
