Hi everyone, I have a Z-Plus which I love, and a Jetta that I am currently trying to sell so I can get one of these two. Before the Z-28 MKII was released & I heard the demos I was set on getting a new Z-Lux, but now I'm not sure as the new kid on the block sounds amazing in the demo I've heard. Also watching Docs AMA on the Z-28 has me second guessing which would be right for me. I love and use several pedals which the Z-Plus handles great & I've read the Z-Lux is similar. Since the closest dealer is a couple of hours away & isn't expecting to get a MKII, Z-talk is my best way to help me decide.

Z28 will be very different from you Plus. The Plus would be closer to the Lux than the ‘28. So if you’re looking for something a bit further away from your Plus it would be the ‘28.
Don’t get me wrong all are amazing and I dearly love my Lux. But a EF-86 front end will handle your pedals better. Even better than your Plus.

That is a tough choice, the Z Lux is a more flexible D Lux with a MV that is to die for. You can push the mids forward or cut them back and takes pedals amazingly.
The Z28 has a little more muscle, a touch of English and your pedals are going to react differently to the EF86. You will find yourself pulling back the gain a touch, but the pedal will feel more like part of the amp. It is an experience that has to be felt and not explained.
I love both amps and can see myself owning both of them at some point.

I had the Z-Lux and agree with NMZ and Bubs Both are great amps. I currently have the Z-28MK11 Combo. I prefer it to the Z-Lux. Plus now with the changes that has been made to it its even better. Its like Bubs stated its more of a feel and once you feel it you will know and be very pleased. And another factor is if you are a gigging musician you will really appreciate the way it cuts through the mix and the way it surrounds you and fills up the room you are in. Its really something to experience and that is also another part of the feel of it as well. Its big sounding yet lightweight. The days of the 4/12 cabs and 100 watt heads are long gone. So to get that type of huge sound and tone in a lightweight combo is pretty amazing to say the least. I have had quite a few Z amps the Z-28MK11 is special. Def my all time favorite. The Doc knocked it out of the park on this one.

There’s only one reasonable answer to these questions: GET THEM BOTH! 😉

I've got both, and as terrific as the Z-Lux is I haven't played it for more than 10 minutes since I got my Z-28 MKII.

The days of the 4/12 cabs and 100 watt heads are long gone. Unfortunately, this is a sad, but true fact! anyone who hasn’t played a 50-100w amp through a 4x12 or 4x0 cab, and felt the joy of the floor vibrating under the cab or the air blowing on the back of your pants, has truly missed a wonderful experience!
