Bizarre. It's like watching a 2.5hr music video with narration. I made it to the '69 Comeback Special era and had to bail, I couldn't take anymore. www.imdb.com/title/tt3704428/

He is one of my all time favorite singers and performers. I regularly listen to his music. His story has been covered enough times over the years (with real footage) that I have no interest in watching another rendition.

I didn't see it. I did hear reviews basically saying that the producers/directors wasted the performance of the Elvis guy. So, you say it's a 2.5 hr movie. What's up with long movies these days. Yes. I'll agree that my attention span isn't great. But, the last few movies that the Mrs & I dialed up here at home were like 2 hours +. We eat late. So, we don't actually finish the movie in one sitting. And, if the movie's not knocking off your socks, you start to ask yourself whether you want to invest another hour or so. Examples: - House of Gucci: 2 hours & 38 minutes. The Mrs really wanted to see Lady Gaga and she likes fashion. We both kind of said it was somewhere between okay and decent. If it wasn't for the Lady Gaga casting, I think the Mrs would have tuned out with me.
- Licorice Pizza: 2 hours & 13 minutes. This was another Mrs choice. However, after about 20-30 minutes in, I was surprised when she said "I'm not digging it, & not investing another hour and a half."
- No Time to Die: 2 hours & 43 minutes. All right. I'm a James Bond fan. Even the Mrs said we have to watch it since it's Daniel Craig's last. I'm digging it. Yes. There's a lot of violence. We had to pause it because it got too late on the first night. I watched more last night mostly by myself. I think I still have 46 minutes to go.
It's kind of like a good song. Tighten It Up unless you're really, really, really good!

JMO but I think they blew a major opportunity when they didn’t get Adam Lambert to play Elvis.
I haven’t seen it and hope to be able to dodge my wife’s efforts for us to do so. I have seen clips and they appear to make The King look almost cartoonish. I saw him live probably 8-9 times and he was indeed larger than life but never cartoonish.

I liked it. Despite it's flaws.
It was different. I thought it was entertaining. Not what I was expecting. I didn't care for the slightly subliminal, political undertones.....but that's Hollywood.
The ending was sad but kind of made up for the cartooness/weirdness. Not going to spoil for anyone that hasn't seen it to the end.

Well, I had to post again as I broke down and watched it today. It was more entertaining than I expected even though it was just a different spin on a story I was pretty familiar with already. I doubt if I will watch it again but I'm glad I saw it once.

My wife finally prevailed and we just finished it. My initial impression from the promos holds true: it was indeed cartoonish and I hated it.
At one point I told her that it reminded me of the only movie we’ve ever both walked out of, Moulin Rouge. She informed me that it was the same director. No surprise.

Just my opinion but I can't think of a biopic that did justice to the truth. the ones about musicians are the worst. I avoid them. Give me a good documentary any day.

I think “Ray” is the high water mark for musician biopics (maybe along with La Bamba).

I'll post my comment here, as anyone reading this forum would possibly appreciate it - during the first 'concert' scene there was quite a cacophony, which included electric guitar feedback sounds that were unlikely to be happening in the mid-50's, I'm guessing.
My personal litmus test for any movie is - would I watch it again? The answer for Elvis is no. The Beatles: Eight Days a Week – The Touring Years was much more entertaining as it is real, not a fantasy. YMMV
