I was recently gifted a Monza 1x10 combo (non-mv) and this thing RIPS! I had demo’d one a few years ago, a 1x12 if I remember, and thought this would make a fantastic dirty channel amp to my Maz. What I didn’t realize until bringing one home is this is a stellar amp on its own, the 1x10, imo, far outweighs the 12. The clean tones at lower volumes to the searing drive when pushed are far mor than a 2nd channel. When set on the edge of clipping and adding a drive the amp sounds like it’s being filtered through heavy cream.
Let me know your thoughts and if you have one. It’s been forever since I posted here so I don’t recall how to attach a picture. Either way, it’s a 1x10 w/Brakelite installed combo and it’s RED to match my Maz, we all know the red ones sound better 😏😉
Gear used to break in the Monza: - ‘05 American Strat, Vintage Noiseless (N/M), Rio Grande BBQ (B) - Charvel Joe Duplantier Sig, Dimarzio Anniversary PAF (N), Dimarzio JD Fortitude (B). - RYRA Klone, Matchless HotBox 3, Strymon BluSky and Way Huge Aquapuss.

The Monza 1x10 combo is such an awesome amp! The Red Fang Alnico speaker is amazing! Mine is the non-mv version with a PPIMV added at the factory. That's a nice feature that not only makes it easier to use the amp at lower volume levels, it also gives it more tonal options.

Agreed, the 1x10 combo is an excellent way to enjoy the Monza! (Especially the Master Volume version, where you could control the overall loudness from the front of the amp, instead of having to reach inside the back to adjust the attenuator.)
I no longer have mine, but "if I could keep them all" I would definitely still have that all-black 1x10 Monza with Master Volume that I had. It really ripped with the Ramrod speaker; I also liked the classic Greenback 10 equally (or maybe better) for all-around capability.

Since I've been gigging my NV Monza head, I'm hesitant to send it to Dr. Z for the MV mod considering the time it will be gone. I have a Ironman Mini, but would love the master volume mod. I would even drive it to Cleveland, but they can't promise a one-day mod understandably. I can't get over how "right" the amp sounds for clean to scream without drive pedals. The red 1x10 is a dream rig! Enjoy. My local tech says he can easily add the PPMV to the amp but I worry it will hurt resale (which is always a possibility, never say never). (Don, how long was your amp gone for the PPMV mod?)

Congrats! What speaker do you have in it? It’s got the Red Fang AlNiCo and it screams, I love it.

(Don, how long was your amp gone for the PPMV mod?) Congrats on the Monza! I absolutely love mine. I bought a non-MV 1x10 combo, and had it shipped directly to Dr. Z for the PPIMV mod. It got there right before Christmas last year, so I attribute 3 weeks of the ~5 weeks it took to the holidays - they deserve to take time off. Also, there was a pretty bad snowfall right after it got done, so it was a few days before UPS could pick it up, so that added a few days. And I’m in California, so that took another week or so for shipping. I don’t want to speak for Dr. Z, but I would guess maybe 2-3 weeks if they still have a similar workload? I know they were pretty busy at the time. I would say to contact Don (repairs@drzamps.com). I’m sure they can give you an ETA. By the way, even if I could have gotten it done for free in a day, I wouldn’t. I would still rather have paid and sent it to Dr. Z. for the mod. I briefly had a head that was modded for PPIMV by a third party, and you can certainly tell. Decent work, but it stuck out like a sore thumb because it doesn’t look the way the Dr. Z factory work does. Don (dona) and I have chatted about this before, but the work on the PPIMV mod they do at Dr. Z is impeccable and beautiful. It looks factory. As a bonus, they wrote my name and date on the chassis (on tape I think), and now it says Mfd. 7/2010 and Mfd. 1/2022. How cool is that? I’m hanging on to this one!

I’m hanging on to this one! Mine has the name of the owner who sent it to DR. Z written on masking tape on the chassis. No new date, though. All three of my Dr. Z amps have the name of the same music store, Ray Mullin, on masking tape on the chassis. I bought my Cure and Z Wreck Jr new there and I guess the previous owner of my Monza bought his there as well.
I'd be torn on whether to get the PPIMV on the back or front of the amp. I prefer the original three knob look with the large "monza" and "Z Amp" logo, and it's always good to save a few bucks, but having the PPIMV knob on the front would be convenient.
