The set of KT66 were most likely the original set in this 1st year RT66 and one of them finally gave up. So just before the great tube crisis of 2002 I bought a brand new set of JJ KT66 along with brand new rectifier and pre amp tubes. I swapped all the tubes out, I biased the amp tested it out and everything sounded as it should. The third time I went to use the amp it popped the fused. I purchased fuses, replaced the fuse, turn the amp backwards so I could watch to see if I was getting a sign from any of the tubes. Powered up, no issues, flipped the standby and the rectifier made some color and and the amp blew the fuse.
I assumed it was a bad rectifier so I ordered another one. Replaced the fuse, Replaced the Rectifier, powered up, no issue, flip the standby and out it went again.
I was going to give it a good deoxit hit to the tube sockets and try again, but before I do that is there anything else I should try first? It has never failed me before, its been a tried an true amp since day one.

Z No metal bases, I also shortened the socket screws to make sure they were not touching the bases to insure I had no issues. There are NO clamps on the power tubes. The bases of the JJ’s are also much bigger than the Gold Lions.

OK metal base 66’s can short to clamps, I have mentioned this in the past . So not that , sounds like a bad Rectifier

Hum, I have options. I’ll clean the tube sockets again and pull a rectifier out of another amp and give it a try.

Ok, pulled the rectifier and stuck it in my M12 and it worked. So I started the process all over again.
Pulled the tubes Cleaned the sockets Tightened the “Shark Jaw” on the rectifier so it held it stable. Installed all the tubes Powered it up Flipped the standby swtich
And everything is working as it should be. VICTORY!
I bought the JJ’s just to try them out and had ever intent to buy another set of GL’s. That’s was just a week before the tubes doubled in price. I so really like these JJ’s, yet the sound is a tad different, but I like it.
Thanks for the input, just another thread to show everyone that if you follow the Doctors tips everything should work out.
