I have an amazing old 40/40 Tone Tubby. It’s a long story but it’s a special Speaker. Others seem to lack enough top end to use with American or 6v6 amps. So I’m going to try the Celestion Hemp Back. I really love the V Type and the A Type so maybe I’ll get lucky again.
Anybody use another brand of Hemp Speaker?

I have an Eminence Cannabis Rex in my Cure - I like the way sounds in that amp. Traded it here on the forum for my WGS ET65.

I guess I must like the hemp vibe. I have a Tone Tubby Red alnico in one 2x12 cab, a C-Rex 12" in another 2x12 cab and two C-Rex 10's in a 2x10 cab. They all are used with American voiced 6V6 and 6L6\5881 amps.

The Rex is too smooth for me, the Canis Major was way to dark and smoky. That’s one you don’t see around anymore.

I have the 12" CR paired with a Gold and they fill in each other's "holes" perfectly for me. The CR 10's are smooth but much more balanced than the 12" version so they stand up well on their own. YMMV.

I have the Red Tone Tubby also. With my Ghia and the Tone Tubby in a 1x12, my guitar sounds/feels like it's singing when I solo. It's a very cool vibe.
I'm mostly just recording at home these days. So, I was bummed that I couldn't get that same vibe with the Tone Tubby in my IsoCab. It must need the air. And, while I love my UA Ox, I'd love it way more if they ever introduced a Tone Tubby into it.
Enjoy & Have Fun! I'm curious to hear how the Celestions feel. Here's to good tone!

That reminds me., I have a Tone Tubby Purple Haze stashed away. I am going to rotate that through the Z-Plus and Maz 38 to see how it sounds. I know it sounds great in the Z-Plus

I have an open back Brown Soun 212 with Tone Tubby Alnico Reds. At first I didn't love it. But after playing around with some different amps and guitars, I've grown to appreciate it. With any amp really. I think it's just so different than anything I had before, it took a bit for me to adjust. I'm still tempted to try the speakers in a different cabs and see what I think. I think they might be really cool in my Marshall 2061cx cab.

The first time I heard anyone play a Tone Tubby was in a blues band in a small club. Don't even remember what amp it was in but it sounded great so I asked the guitarist about it. He recommended I try a C-Rex first. Claimed it was 90% as good as the Tone Tubby for about a third the price, so I did. I liked it a lot in my MAZ 18. You know how it is though. Sometimes you gotta have that extra 10% no matter the cost. So I bought a Red Alnico Tubby and yes, it was better. Great for blues but for rock and country. I decided I wanted a little more top end so have gone back to paper cones. For a short while I also had a C-Rex loaded 2x12 that sounded wonderful with a Strat or Tele and powered by a big bottle power tube amp.

I’ve had the Red, the Green, Chicago Blue, and the San Rafael. Hemp has its own sound, if you like sparkling top end then hemp is not for you. The Green 40/40 seems to be the best all around, it’s no secret that it’s a G12H Celestion with a Hemp Come.

I’ve read the description pretty close multiple times. Since they base it off of the same platform as the V Type I think that in the end if will be too dark. I’m intrigued why they didn’t just do the G12H30 with a Hemp Cone or even a Vintage 30. Take a speaker with some edge and mellow it with the hemp. But the V Type is pretty much perfect when it comes to the amount of top end. I still believe it sounds like running a pair of greenbacks. The V Type and the A Type are two of my favorites.

Is the Red as loud as the green 4040? I currently have 2 greens, an 8ohm in a 1x12 combo and a 16ohm in an ext cab. The amp is 8ohm but per the builder, it's fine with the impedance mismatch. The ext speaker jack is wired in parallel, so 5.33ohm load. Ideally, id get a pair of 16ohm speakers for an 8ohm load, but then I'd HAVE to use the ext cab every time. 8+16 I know means the 8 gets more amp power than the 16, and it's true, the 8 is louder. Tone Tubby recommends the red green combo so I was thinking of getting an 8ohm Red to put in the amp.

They are well matched. The Red is smokier, and not as aggressive, responds better in cleaner settings. They do different things, that’s why they are a great blend.
I am currently using a Green 40/40 from 07 and it’s loud, punchy, and still bright enough to cut.

I know it sounds great in the Z-Plus …curious to hear your observations on the PH in the plus. I unexpectedly came to own a TT Chicago Blues and I’ve been running that in my Z-Plus for a few weeks. I’m really enjoying it so far. I feel that it complements the brightness of the amp very well.

Just scored 2 TT 40/40’s from 05. So now at some point a 2x12 Cab will have to come my way.
