I recently re-watched The Song Remains The Same. Hadn't seen it in many years and had forgotten how great Page's performance was.
Adam, you get in that zone in a similar way, it seems to me: varying pick attack, adjusting guitar, etc. (I know you used the eq bypass near the end.) Very cool.

That album was cool, and Page played with a ton of energy. I'm not sure how much of it is really live though. You can hear 2 guitars on some of he stuff, you hear some really drastic tone changes at times that sound like a punch from another amp, and I think celebration day in particular was a complete studio redo. Not trying to down play it at all though, and it's quite an adventure. I guess a lot of the live albums from the past were like that. Kiss Alive for instance, drums were live taken from a bunch of shows, the crowd sound was live (they looped 7 multi tracks of crowd sound and would put them on faders and bring them into the mix whenever. Like think a 30' tape loop going around a mic stand, but 7 of them. Pretty ingenious really. Anyway, all the other stuff was studio redo. The amp - I was fooling around with another zep tune (4 sticks) thinking maybe I'd redo the guitar and was playing through a bunch of Z's to try to see which one sort of wanted to be the one for that, and the Antidote sort of stuck out. Ems had something cool and different going too, and really you could make any of them work, but to your point, the Antidote was sort of most at home with the zep thing, and a lot of those zep sounds sort of lurk within. So I thought this might be fun and took a go at it. First I tried that more gainy treble pickup sound with a treble booster (it sounded like that to me on the recording), but it didn't sound that great and made a lot of noise, so I tired the eq bypass and that did the same kind of thing I was hearing, but better to my ears. Thought it was worth sharing. Pick dynamics, the amp is pretty loud and has distortion going, guitar volume is on 10 for most of it, and yes, just barely hitting the strings at all for most of it. Kind of found a point where I could keep it clean playing real soft while also allowing it to get distorted when picking hard, and accentuated with the eq bypass. You can get pretty close with the EMS on the 800 side and the volume of the guitar backed up for clean, and then let it rip for the distorted part. But, this I think sounded a little more authentic to that original recording. Just thought is was worth sharing that.
