Hi all,
I'm new to this board, and this is my very first contribution! A few weeks ago I acquired a used 2009 MAZ18 NR combo, with no modifications, except for the new 6P14P tubes.
Fast forward to a few days ago, I finally had the house to myself, and was able to crank up the amp (wearing ear protection, obviously, that thing gets loud!). Guitar went through my pedalboard, but all pedals are off, and straight to the amp. The guitar itself is a custom Tele made by guitar maker Ken Francis here in Canada, pick ups are 1951-Tele style pick ups.
I've recorded a video to share the experience. Camera positioning was tricky (I used my iPhone), as the floor was shaking quite a bit (you can actually see it in the video), which made the phone fall over. Phone was put about 20 ft away from the amp, seemed to have prevented the mic to add clipping.
Amp settings were: Volume/master: 3pm, Treble/mids: noon, Bass/cut: 9am.
Now I need to get myself an attenuator to replicate that tone at a more manageable volume...

Sounds good. Though they always do. What speaker is in it?

I almost didn't want to listen to this. Long story short is that my Gold Top Les Paul was my only real guitar from about 1976 through 2001. At 40, I thought I wanted a Tele. Tried a few out. And, while waiting for the guy to get one from the back, I picked up a Strat sitting out, and I was immediately smitten. Your sound tells me a Tele would have been very, very nice too!
Nice Work!

Yeah, I’ve got a 335 and a P90 SG, but this amp really shines with single coils. My Strat sounds awesome through it too, the Tele is quite a bit fatter though.

Although I have MKII and it sounds fine I have several MKIs also and like yours they too have it going on. Especially with the vol/master up like yours.

I agree with you, it sounds amazing as is. I played around with tubes when I got it, and right now (and in the video) it feels like the best combination is EHX 12AX7 Gold Pin in V1, a Chinese 12AX7 in V2, a Sovtek 12AX7 LPS (balanced, PI) and an RCA NOS GZ34 as a rectifier.
The guy who sold it to me shipped it with 6P14P power tubes, and I managed to get a couple extra pairs before prices went up.
I might try them in my other amp (Mesa Rectoverb 25).
I've got a Tone King Iron Man 2 mini on its way to attenuate the volume a bit, the tone in the video is glorious, but completely unrealistic at home (not even sure I can find a place in town for a gig when I'll be allowed to push the volume that much).
I might do a video again, with the same settings, but with the attenuator, when it gets here.
I was initally thinking of putting together a small pedalboard for this amp, but I feel like I might use it with a couple bands without any boost or overdrive.
