So my newest purchase was a Z 4x10 cab loaded with golds. It appears to have been ordered that way, not a scratch, plastic still on the Ohm Plate. I pulled the golds and I’m trying a combination of Red Fang Ceramics and Ram Rods. Hope to have it wired up tonight.

Super cool! I've been wondering about that cab and z 2x10 and 2x12 and the backline 2x12 forever. The speakers and cab have a such an imprint on the guitar sound.

This past weekend we plugged in the Z28 and the M12 into a 2061x 2x12 cab and they both sounded amazing. So the 2x12 Backline has and will remain on my list of gotta haves. K

Give the Gold10 and Z10 combo a shot if you're still looking to experiment. I like that combo a lot in my ghia 2x10. The gold10 is a nice sounding speaker. Gives some top end clarity to the more mid focused Z10 to my ears. The Z10 carries the low end nicely.

That sounds like a LOUD 4x10 cab--either with the original Golds or the Red Fang/Ramrod mix that you're trying. Since I'm spending your money here I'd suggest trying-out a cab full of G10 Greenbacks. I think those are great 10" speakers--I can only imagine they sound better as a team of four.

The greenback 10’s are awesome, I feel the 4x10 is more than likely not for me. I’m so used to playing with a 1x12 or 2x10 Cab. When I get to 4x12 or 4x10 or a deep 2x12 I think I loose the interaction with the speaker, a focused tone.

I’m home now, I cranked up my Red Z28 and gave it a go. Great Bottom end, great detail, but it does feel stiff. The Golds were not a focused on the bottom end, but the Eminences just feel a bit rigid. The Greenbacks would be great I’m sure, but not sure if I would rather put the golds back in and sell it and just order a modern Z 2x10. The size of the modern Z cabs are really great, but this one was just a deal so I had to try it.

I had a 4x10 Marshall cab that I sold about 5 years back. I really regret selling that cab; it was lightweight and sounded great. My Super Reverb has 4 of the CTS Alnico 10's in it and that's a tough sound to beat in an American voiced amp. Big, fat, swirley tone.

Sounds like they were not broken in. I've had a couple of 12" C-Golds and it made a difference.

In the end 4x10’s was just too much cabinet. I’ll stick to 2x10’s. I’m currently on the hunt.
