Having some thoughts about making a 2x10 baffle for my 1x12 cabinet for my Z Lux head (remember, I have two luxs; one head and one combo). How hard would this be and what type of wood is best? Dave, I know you’ve done something similar, maybe converted to a 1x15 or something like that.

I once converted a JAZ combo from a 1x12 to a 2x10. I bought the baffle from Dr.Z so it is an exact fit for that cab. I believe the JAZ and Z-Lux use the same cab. The baffle measures 20-1/8 x 15-1/8 and has black & tan cloth. If you think it will work for you, you may have it. Just cover shipping.

I just used 7 ply birch plywood, same thickness as original. Be sure make it a little small and give yourself about 1/16" - 3/32" clearance to account for grill cloth and piping. I bought it at Home Depot and had them cut it on their saw at the store. Then I used a jig saw to cut the speaker holes.
If you've got compressed air spend $35 or so and get an Arrow PT-50 pneumatic staple gun. They're great tools, and I couldn't have done it without mine. You'll be using a LOT of staples, and you'll be blistered if you use a hand stapler!

Well, I didn’t realize the baffle was also the front surface with the grill cloth. For some reason I was thinking it was a separate board behind the one with the grill cloth.
