Greetings,
I took a chance bought a new Jetta without trying it first and I absolutely love it. I thought if I were to get a second amp that I'd want something different than the Jetta or another Z but I love the Jetta so much I can't help but wonder if Dr Z has something I'd like even more. Maybe the Jetta is a gateway "drug."
I've always liked the 5881 tubes and Nova looks like it had similar volume to the Jetta that is great for getting thick tones at lower volumes.
Do you Dr Z enthusiasts think the Nova is different enough than the Jetta to warrant keeping both amps if I get a Nova, or will the nova do everything the Jetta and more and sound better?
I use the Jetta with a jekyl and hyde distortion/overdrive and a couple other pedals. It really checks all the boxes for me so maybe I'm just addicted to the Z and gassing for more!

Don't feel bad, it's a common feeling. One that's come over me MANY times. I love my Jetta! I have no experience with the Nova. I too have questioned weather or not the next Z purchae will be different enough to justify. It has turned out that all of my Dr Z amps have their own thing and they are all worth having.

I've owned a Nova and played a Jetta. They're very different amps, though I didn't play the Jetta long enough to get to know it well. The Nova is very similar to a Fender tweed Super and is footswitchable between clean and very dirty sounds. It was a fun amp!

"Hello me, meet the real me". - The great Dave Mustaine lyric. Welcome to the club and you aren't alone in your thoughts. I'm up to 8 now and surely there must be no reason to want for more, but I know there's different magic in that Jetta, and Nova, and Wreck, and Z-master and contemplate those all the time. Not sure how practical that is, but I get it, and many others do here as well. Surely someone will come up with a better answer than I. Regardless, cheers and welcome!

Greetings, Maybe the Jetta is a gateway "drug." Oh, if you only knew the half of it. Take a look at any number of members signatures, then take a look at jaguarguy’s, (Mike) avatar Welcome to the forum.

I have both. They are quite different. Fwiw, I tend to use the Jetta on the edge of break up as a "pedal platform". The Nova is usually set up as plug straight in, keep the OD on and use guitar controls to shape the sound.

If your interested I have a Nova in perfect condition that I would sell. I've done a few deals here on the forum, all went well! Thanks, Dave

I'm going to order a Dr Z 1X12 with alnico cream speaker very soon. I think I'm between adding the Nova or Maz...there's another interesting comparison. I like how Dr Z doesn't necessarily have a "flagship" or signature amp, but many different flavours all satisfying to play or listen to.

They're great amps. Mine is the only amp I feel really comfortable just plugging my Firebird straight in with no pedals at all, and like Mike said leaving the drive engaged and using the GV to control the dirt. Cleans up nicely and has a fabulous tone when cranked...but the Master Volume is very, very good as well.

would anyone say the lead tones from the nova are warmer than the jetta for those of you that have tried or own both?

I have not played a Jetta but the description says "the Jetta’s signature sound is one of near hi-fi accuracy" which is not how I would describe the thick, mid-forward, tweedish sound of the Nova. So it appears they would have a different flavor. The Nova definitely can have thick lead tones. However it can still be plenty bright and cutting.
As mentioned, the MV works splendidly. I also love that, even at 30 watts, it's still only 36lbs iirc. Of course, in that way it IS similar to the Jetta. Very portable.
