Are there any other changes that need to be done when switching from 6V6's to 5881's on a Cure? The sound is great, but I'm wondering if blown fuses on Standby switching after about 3 weeks could be related. Might just be a coincidence and the rectifier was aging, I'm waiting for a new 5R4A to try. I have had an amp with cathode bias before, and was able to swap in different power tubes for kicks.

Welcome!
I think there are some component changes when going from a 6v6 version Cure to a 5881 version. However, I'm not sure on that. And if there are, I'm not sure if it's related to performance and longevity, or strictly for tonal enhancements. Don at Dr Z repairs will answer this question if you shoot him an email. He is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and prompt to respond.

The output tube cathode bias resistor needs to be changed, along with the screen resistors. Contact Don at Z repairs for details.

I thought that Doc Z has covered this on this forum, I think a search of the Cure forum will find it (maybe, if I'm right).

Thanks, that was quick! Bias value wants to be 250 ohm / 10 watts. Think I'll just swap back to the 6V6's. The Cure has been my main amp for over 3 years now since I went off Mesa's and when I need to cover a bigger space I cab-clone to the PA in tandem with a SM57 hanging in front. My curiosity was just piqued when I saw the recommended tubes had changed on the site.

The Cure is a great amp! I've had mine for over 4 years. I'm interested in the 5881 revision as well. I'd like to try one out and see how big of a difference there is. Maybe I need two Cures!
