New to the forum. I have a 2011 Maz 18 junior with reverb with 2x10 in blonde tolex. I play out with this amp and the tone is awesome. I just purchased a used 2001 identical amp in black tolex. First question: is the circuitry the same? I've researched that it is. My second question/problem is the 2001 amp does not sound anything like the 2011. I did a side by side comparison and found it's not as loud and very thin sounding. The reverb also is not as present as the 2011. Obvious fix would be tubes but before I do that I would like any info on what it could be. I run 6 boss pedals in front of the 2011 and get compliments on the tone but same setup makes 2001 sounds mushy and again reverb is weak. Any opinions and help would be much appreciated. If tubes are the answer, I guess the third question would be tube choice. I know the 2001 has fender tubes in it currently. I think JJ's in 2011. Tubes in 2001 have good color and are not red or purple. Thanks, Nick

If you have Fender marked tubes in the 2001, then it is definitely time to change those out. Please make sure you get the prescribed Rectifier or an NOS rectifier. I would recommend sending the 2001 chassis to the Z shop and have them update the circuitry to the Mark II specs, they could go over the amp and change out filter caps and grid resisters if needed. The results are significant. When that amp comes back then you will want to send 2011 in as well.
