Looking at picking up a mini mass attenuator for my Maz Jr. Love the sound of the amp cranked up somewhat, but have to keep the noise level at a manageable level. My question is; should i go with the 25 watt or 50 watt model. My initial thoughts are that a 25 watter would be more transparent than the 50, but I'm not sure if it would be enough for the maz. Any thoughts or experiences?

I've got the mini-MASS, in the 50 watt version. I got to to use with the MAZ 18, but also to use some with the MAZ 38 or any other higher powered amps. I think it sounds just fine. At really attenuated levels it will squash some high end, but not too bad. Plus, with the MAZ jr's cool pre-amp and volume/master capabilities, couple it with the mini and you should be to dial in the sound you want. All of my clips in the sounds thread on this forum were recorded with the mini-MASS. I also use it for just about every recording session I do, and have never had any kind of negative issues at all. For basic attenuator applications for the $$$, I think the Weber unit is hard to beat. I think you'd be better off with the 50 watt'er in case you wanted to use it with other amps.

I've got a Mini-mass, altho it's not on a MazJr BECAUSE I DON'T OWN ONE YET DAMMIT!, but the Mini-mass sounds great.

Is the attenuation continous on the dial or is it in clicks? If clicks, what is the db drop per click?

I have the 25 watt mini mass and it's great with my Maz 18. You are welcome to try it Bill. I'll send you an e-mail or a PM. I'd second Jayson on the 50 watt though. It's only $25 more, and who knows. You're next Z might be a Stangray.
Hey billyguitar: The mini mass is both discreet and continuous. ie. It's continuous down to zero but on full to the right, there is a drop in volume compared to bypassing it , maybe 50% to my ears. I don't know how many dbs. It's eminently useful and a bargain though.

Gary, I'm not clear on this, do you mean that it's minimum setting is about 50%? I'd probably only be using a minimal amount of attenuating so that's the direction I'm heading. For instance, the THD's at 4 db per click is too much.

I just checked again. If you set the mini-mass to the highest volume (least attenuation), there is a drop in volume from the not attenuated volume (bypass). I don't think it's 50% just trying it now, but it is quite noticeable. From there on down to minimum volume (maximum attenuation), it's continuous.
Maybe it's just the 25 watt. We should ask Jayson Chance if he experiences the same with his 50 watt. But at the least amount of attenuation, the volume is lower than if I was not using the mini-mass. So it's not continuous down from the amp's full volume.
I hope this makes sense.

Thanks for the help everyone. From what I've heard the 50 watt version works well with the Maz and offers a little more versatility in terms of being able to use it on larger amps as well. Could come in handy some day, should a old Stangaroo come hoping down the electric trial, as unlikely as that may be. Nonetheless i like versatility and also, should i ever want to unload it one day, a 50 watter would perhaps appeal to greater numbers of perspective buyers. Just a thought. Cheers Oh Gary, thanks for the kind offer. E-mail sent

If you have the attenuator on and you turn the knob fully clockwise, I believe it is about a 3-4 db attenuation. From there, you can continuously dial down.
