I'm having issues with a really foul breakup on this amp. To be clear, I have a Jetta and a z28 that breakup very smoothly.
This amp gets a huge hum or motorboat sound when I run the mid to zero. It also makes a tone of noise when you move the bass knob unless the footswitch is hooked up and engaged.
The amp was built in 2009 and one power supply cap failed open at one point the first 100uf 350v one.
Also the tubes all seem fine. I did replace the ef86.
Any insight would be appreciated.

After checking to see if any pots were loose I tightened the master volume pot and things got a little better. Now the treble pot hums big time when turned all the way down. The breakup is much better tho. Almost sounds right.

Hi you're on the right track tightening the master volume. Do the remainder of the pots and the input jacks then let us know where you're at with the problem Note you want to be careful not to overtighten, but if you do strip a thread, simply remove the washer and put the nut back on. With the washer gone you'll have enough good thread to suffiiciently tighten the nut. Thanks Don Depew DRZ repairs 216-475-1962

I have the amp to where only the treble pot causes trouble now after tightening everything. The treble pot will let out a large 60 or 120 cycle hum when set at zero and only then. The volume pot will control the volume of that hum.
