Nice, Adam. Do you now own an Antidote, or was it borrowed? I'd love to hear your perspective on the similarities and differences between EMS, Remedy and Antidote. (You can throw the CAZ-45 in too ) I don't have an EMS, but fwiw I bond more with the Antidote than the Remedy.

Good question!
I have an EMS and Remedy. I think you can definitely coax some of the Remedy sounds from the EMS. However, you cannot get the Remedy to cover as much ground as the EMS. The EMS has a wider tonal range. Cleans get more clean with higher headroom and the dirty get more dirty. Stays tighter when really pushing it as well.
I too would be curious to see what you think Adam.

Antidote is mine. My thoughts as of now, like I'll as I learn more about the amps over time, some opinions might change. First off, the EMS/Remedy/Antidote/CAZ are all just FANTASTIC, extremely musical amplifiers. The first 3 somewhere in the Marshall camp, and I think the CAZ is completely different and really doesn't fit in the the same camp at all. CAZ doesn't sound like a modded Marshall either, and I have a few other amps in that territory too. CAZ is its own thing. On to the 3...they all have shades of that Marshall thing, like some similar DNA, but they all sound radically different to me. They all can produce killer clean tones at really any volume you might ever need for anything. They all can go incredibly loud, and have fantastic sounds when pushed, and an attenuator isn't a bad idea. They are "big boy" amps. EMS - obviously has that 800 thing that the others don't have. Maybe different from other old 800's I've played, it's thicker, and you can pull the gain way down and get all kinds of great sounds where an 800 might seems to fall apart and get really thin with the gain down. It's a little "barky" for lack of a better word. It's thick. It takes pedals incredibly well, like various pedals I could never get a sound out of, I can with this. I've done quite a few videos with this amp. Remedy - non master version. I think it's a master at all sorts of great Plexi tones and sounds fantastic with any guitar and at any level of volume or gain, obviously clean at lower settings, but it's loud at those settings too. Has a bit of midrange grind and distortion as the volume goes up. It's just a wonderful sounding amp. There are a few on reverb now for say 1k - 1.1k and for that kind of money, it's an absolute steel. I think I paid $1500 for mine and I still think that was a steal for what you get. There's sort of a ton of old classic rock sounds in this amp that are just killer, but it can be just totally beautiful clean too. Antidote - this does a whole different level of Marshall. It's sort of cleaner than the Remedy, and more full range sounding (again, lack for a better description). This one has the KT66/EL34 switchable tube swap. With the KT66's, it has an enormous low end push that almost sounds like a sub or something, but it's not "bassy". More like a massive power in the lows. With El34's, some of the lows go away and little more "krang" comes into the picture. It sounds and feel extremely different with each set of tubes, and both sound fantastic. This amp has some of the cleaner ac/dc type tones in spades whereas the Remedy has some more of that more distorted AC/DC thing inherent in it. Switching the modern to vintage switch to modern, it's more in the Angus vs. Malcom camp as the amp description shows. The other trick up it's sleeve is the eq bypass like on the MAZ, and that sounds fantastic too. In general, it has less gain than the Remedy, and the EQ bypass doesn't feel as drastic as it does say on the MAZ. I've spent the least amount of time with this one so far, but I think this one is super special. Bottom line - these are all completely different amps to me and they all sound out of this world fantastic. The Marshall territory 40-50 watt ones have more volume on tap than you can really imagine. The CAZ can do a host of great gain sounds at any volume. Hope that helps a little. Just glad I don't have to widdle the collection down to 1 or 2 at this point. And for the ones I don't have, I know would kill too. I'll trade my (not sure what) for your Nova or Wreck or Master... and I'm forgetting a few.

Awesome write up Adam! Thank you! I totally get what you're saying with the lower gain EMS tones on the 800 setting. It has some great tones there! That came as a bit of a surprise to me...

Thanks for the detailed comments, Adam. Much appreciated. It appears you got one of the prototype Antidotes. Doc decided to drop the alternate tubes switch on production ones.

Those KT66’s are so intoxicating. Maybe an Antidote with a PPIMV?

Kind of funny, after all that praise I gave the Z marshal camp offerings, I played the MAZ 18 for a couple hours and holy crap, I forgot how good that amp is. I must sound like a commercial or something. 🤓

A: "The one I'm plugged into!"
