I'm not really looking for a bedroom amp, but with the gigging situation at the moment I'm not sure I'll use it outside the house that much , so I'd like something that I could enjoy even inside the house. I had the MK 1 and I wonder if the MK2 could be easily dialed to be played clean with pedals at reasonable volume in the house without being lifeless. thanks

Short answer in my opinion is yes. Everyone's "bedroom" volumes are different. However, I really enjoy my Maz 18 NR MKII at all volumes and levels of gain. While I do find that it likes to start overdriving pretty early. There is plenty of range in the clean territory to have a blast with or without pedals.
The Cure and Jetta do this equally as well as the Maz18 imo. The three amps sound very different. So it depends on what sound you like.

I say yes too, thanks to the new master volume.

Yep, the new MV is brilliant. It's def one of my favorite amps.

I have both, a MKII and several MKIs.
At the risk of seeming to be a contrarian IMO it works fine with either. Go back and read older posts before the MKII came out. Everybody thought the MKI was the greatest thing since sliced bread, and I don’t remember many comments about the MV being problematic. The MKII is a great amp but the MKI didn’t suck then and still doesn’t.

The Maz 18 Mk.II has the bet MV of any amp I've ever played. I use it for bedroom practice all the time.
My Mk.I was great, but this is even better and, IMO, is better than any attenuator.

Hello, everyone! New to this forum. I actually joined to see if this question had been answered. I recently got my first Dr. Z, a 2009 Maz 18 NR head, and I was blown away by the tone and volume. On my particular head through a 2x12 with Greenbacks, anything above 8:00 was gloriously loud. I decided to send it in for the MK.II mods (should arrive there today actually) and I was just looking for some first hand accounts on the new master volume. Looks like I'll be a happy camper. Cheers!

He makes sure everything is working and sounding perfect before it leaves. Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum amdowell. Let us know what you think when you get the amp back.

Welcome! I'm sure you'll love it as I have a 18nr2 and it sounds great. I have no idea on how the master affects the tone, but from a practical standpoint, it's either that or an attenuator.
I have a bunch of Z's, some with master volumes and some without. Every one of them sounds fantastic. But, there's something about the non master ones that maybe have another level of "purity" of tone to them, I think. That also comes at the price of "can I even use this thing" too, so it's a fair tradeoff. Z knows this stuff inside and out, and obviously the people that work at the shop do too.
Regardless, let us know how you like the amp when you get it back. Also know there are some amazing tones in that amp when you get it really cookin'.

Got my Maz 18 NR back this week from having the MKII update done. I can honestly say the master volume after the mod is a HUGE improvement. Before the mod, I basically had the master almost all the way down and barely a hair turned up. Now, I’ve got total control over volume without losing any tone. Very, very happy with how it turned out.

MV is great on this amp. However, i would recommend the wreck jr for lower level play. It has a richer sound and the same MV. I have both.
Everyone's different though so check out this demo. What hear in this video is what I hear when I compare these two amps at home.

A lot of videos I see of either are largely tele players playing mostly clean or slightly overdriven. What amp is going to get me to a warm singing lead tone better?...with the help of a pedal or two. I could probably omit the use of a delay in the loop, so no loop on the Z wreck is not a deal breaker for me.

After the MKII mod, I can use mine for some pretty heavy stuff without pedals with an LP. It gets plenty nasty with the new MV, enough so to satisfy any spandex era guitar work that might be required.
