Santa Claus brought me my third Dr. Z amp: the Z Wreck Jr. combo. What an absolutely great amp the Z Wreck Jr. is. You all know it, but I'm just blown away by how rich and harmonically complex it is. I almost forget it doesn't have onboard reverb once you get it cooking. It's such a three-dimensional sound. For fun, I hooked it up with my other 2 Zs last night for a killer Wet/Dry/Wet setup. It sounds absolutely massive. The Carmen Ghia and Maz Jr. fill out the trifecta!

Great indeed I have a Moog minifooger delay that I set for a moderate amount of slapback. The pedal has a drive knob that I use to push the amp into more drive when I need it. The drive on the pedal I really use as a boost. Combine that with the slapback and it makes up for a lack of reverb. Sounds absolutely huge. I know the rule is not to run delay into dirt but it just works So if you have a good analog or tape delay and a boost give it a try as most delays don’t have a drive control. This is from a perspective of having the jr set with a good amount of drive. No effects loop needed!

You must have been a good boy last year! I wonder how I sign up to that list! Congrats on getting a great amp!

Great addition. It’s my favorite amp at the moment.

So how does the wreck jr compare to the maz jr? I really miss my maz jr but have been eyeing the wreck jr ever since they came out.

Great comparison. This video clearly demonstrates, to me anyway, that you need one of each.

So how does the wreck jr compare to the maz jr? I really miss my maz jr but have been eyeing the wreck jr ever since they came out. They are pretty different animals. The Maz Jr is more versatile for sure. More bottom end for sure and a slightly more of a mid-scooped profile. Yes, you can goose the mids, but that's not inherent to its overall flavor. The Z Wreck Jr. is more mid-focused, more harmonically rich, and more touch sensitive. It does that swirly tube gain thing at mid- to high-volumes.
