i watched the first episode so far. will try for number two this evening. I heard they get successively more engaging.
so, thought i'd put this up here as a conversation starter in case anyone has anything to say about it.
Here are my observations so far and, for the record, I'm not a Beatles fan boy at all. Just a casual fan of the music.
Yoko didn't break up the band.
they were all so young!! Paul's voice!! Their three voices together!!!! John's guitar playing is more interesting than George's??
Even though they were superstars, they still wrote songs like i put on my pants... one line(leg) at a time.

As Rick Beato pointed out, they broke up when they were in their late 20's. Pretty nice catalog of tunes for young men!

We don't have Disney+, and I read they don't have those trial options where you can cancel after a month.
I saw a few interviews about the series. Two things surprised me. From the few clips I saw, I was surprised at what looked like a very collaborative process with the songs. I'm the kind of writer that spends weeks, months, years working on a song and then presenting it to the band. The collaboration surprised me even more because the story we know is that they were dysfunctional and not working together.
And, if I heard correctly, they basically did that album live. I think they said that was one of the reasons they needed a piano player since Paul wouldn't be overdubbing.
Oh. A third thing. I think I heard right in that they were trying to figure out how to perform and that roof top performance was the final one.
I think they did a good job with the clips and interviews. They left me with the desire that if I get the chance to purchase it, I definitely would like to see/hear what happened in between those clips they shared.
Enjoy! Oh. I thought it was a movie. How many episodes is the series and are they one hour episodes.

there are 3 episodes and the total length is like 8 hours.
the Rick Beato video is a good thing to watch for the answer to some of your other questions.
as for their writing collaboratively.. yes. it's cool to watch. very collaborative for some stuff.

It was a great series. Part 1 was a bit long at points but I think it was necessary to give context to what was happening with them individually and collectively. I was surprised to see them play so many of their past big hits at different points- George suggesting they do some "oldies" and then playing the intro to "Every Little Thing" , John sitting in the studio alone playing "I Feel Fine" , and he suggested playing "Help!" and several other tunes they did. Was cool they were still in touch with those tunes. A lot of fascinating glimpses into how they worked together once things got rolling. And funny Paul said "50 years from now people will be saying the band broke up because Yoko sat on an amp". Their discussion of how things changed after Brian Epstein died was telling , he was the rudder for their ship and without him to manage that great talent they went adrift.

I've watched 2/3 of the show. I'll watch the 3rd installment today. I can see another viewing in the near future; it's that good. Growing up in the 60s/70s, I heard plenty of their music. I never owned a Beatles album until the 80s.
The first thin I've noticed is the editing to make it appear to have flow for the stories. This concerns me because it allows freedom to tell any story the producer wishes to convey. I don't take it as absolute truth on the surface. It becomes obvious pretty quickly. Given that, I still enjoyed it but tried to follow the emotion of the interactions.
I do believe Yoko was the catalysis for the final break-up. Ringo had quit the band before this started and come back. George quit during the filming and, it appears, all 3 were respectful of John/Yoko's wanting to spend time together. Watching, you get a sense of how they collaborated. Any single member's absence destroyed that process.
There are so many nuances you can't hide which make this really fun to watch.

I don't have Disney+ but if and when this ever becomes available on DVD or some other purchase platform I'd buy it. I've always loved the Beatles and their enormous contribution to music.

Made my way halfway into episode 2 last night. realizations:
Paul reading the gossip column and the outright fabrications about how the band is feuding. Priceless.
Realizing I spent most of my life thinking that the Let it Be movie was the true story when really it completely misses the mark by focusing on the "george is dissatisfied" thing when it was clearly just one thing of many. watching this film shows a band having a good time (especially after Billy Preston joins).
Seeing the look on Billy Preston face when he shows up to say Hi and basically gets asked to be a Beatle.

a weird moment was when Peter Sellars stops in and John sounds like he's tripping on acid. it's a strange scene. one of many.

I just finished it up this morning, that rooftop concert was completely awesome! What a killer group of musicians, so talented. Too bad they didn't continue on with their plans for working up 14 songs like that and doing a tv show. IDK why they didn't just lock the door and ignore the cops.

Great series. I’ve never been a huge fan… but, They are NOT overrated.
To be in your twenties and have that level of free flowing creativity is astounding. I understand that fifty plus years has codified those songs in our brains… but they are wonderful.
I think Paul says it well in the final episode. They went from four young men riffing off of each other and being a band, to four mature and talented individuals with their own ideas. That said, the were the quintessential example of gestalt in a team effort.

I’m interested in seeing (and owning) this but not about to subscribe to anything to see it. Like Dave said earlier, hopefully it comes out on physical media at some point.

You only have to get one month at $8 then you can cancel it. That's what I'm doing.

Oh! I didn’t see this thread before, and of course, Ian is the man for starting it. I’ve only one thing to say (clearly, THAT is bullshite): Amazing 8 hours of captivating info for a fan of great songwriting and musicianship. And as Ian, says, just like his chess game, they write songs like we put our pants on. Really eye opening. Ima go write a song! Funny how much discussion this film has generated for me and mine and my friends. Really great.
jj
and ….. ima go watch the whole dang thang again.
