Congrats, very nice. I’ve always loved the sound and look of an SG, but never found them comfortable to play.

Congrats, very nice. I’ve always loved the sound and look of an SG, but never found them comfortable to play. They are a bit challenging to play especially standing up. I use a wide leather strap. Some suggest a wide suede strap.

Yep, the right strap will help with neck dive. You can also add weight to the strap close to where it attaches to the body.

Some suggest a wide suede strap. My old guitar partner had 2 of them over the years, and I tried like h*ll to play them and like them, because they sound so good, (and nasty) but even with my long arms, I felt like I was always stretching to reach the nut side of the fret board. I can’t imagine how someone with shorter arms must have felt.

Yep, the right strap will help with neck dive. You can also add weight to the strap close to where it attaches to the body. The 61 is very lightweight and I have not even noticed the neck dive on this one. I know the neck is thinner than the standard. My sons standard neck is thicker. His is also very nice. The set up from the factory on both of these axes are spot on.

I forgot to mention My oldest son wanted a SG so I went and played a standard SG to give him my advise on it. Not only did he come home with the one I played but I also bought the 61! His is a black Standard SG and very nice as well. He loves it. Its crazy for me because I am pretty much a strat player through and through but this SG is amazing. The tone it puts out is something special. Its thick and heavy but still cuts through the mix.

I love SGs as well. They are very versatile and with the new 61 pickups they can do almost anything except of course quack like a Strat in positions 2 and 4. Yours is exactly the one I like due to the smaller pickguard. Not sure what they call it, maybe bat wing or something like that but I much prefer it to the larger one.

I've always loved SG's , personally my favorite design -primarily the ones from 1962 thru 1968 , but especially Standards and Custom pre-67. I have a Standard with the long "DeLuxe Vibrola" . I never had a problem with neck dive myself. Love the sound , fast action and relatively light weight and they look badazz

SG's are pretty cool. My little story...
I never had any want for one until I borrowed a friend's stock 64. That thing was magic. Anyway, picked up a new "61" like this and it was a dud. Could have been just that guitar. Returned it (SW) and kept an eye out in their b-stock section for something. Found one that was returned, made an offer and they took it. That one is a great guitar, but it's not that old 64 by any stretch. It really makes me wonder what made the old guitars so fantastic. It's a real thing. Even playing the old one acoustically, it just had overtones, harmonics, sustain and volume.
And yes, the nut feels about 3 frets further out from other guitars and just getting a tuner on the headstock feels like when you put one on a bass. But, it's also really easy to play way high on the neck too. They are sort of like a Les Paul, but have less low end whoomph and focus/attack which can be a good thing too. And the general weight makes them really comfortable. My 2 cents.

Try this: Click on the picture, then click copy image address, then paste that into the photo icon box. I don't use Imgur, so I'm not totally familiar with it.

I noticed you've been editing that post trying to get the pic up. What you paste in the box has to have .jpeg on the end. You're getting close. Now I can't get it to work! Thank you I am still having issues..

Beauty of a guitar. I like those tuners better than Rotomatics. The ones you have are lighter, so less neck dive. If those are Grover 135's, they stay in tune very well too.

I can’t imagine how someone with shorter arms must have felt. I just watched a video recently of a interview with Angus Young and he explained why he moved around so much while he was playing because of his short arms and small hands. He said that’s how he would be able to reach and hit those notes.

I just got a new one as well.
I bought one used in 2010 and really liked it. In fact the best tone I ever had was a Z-28 and that SG. I foolishly sold them both in a gear purge.
Now all I need is a new Z-28 MKII.

Congrats on the SG! I have an '04, '61 cherry. It's been one of my most used guitars. The '61 pups are some of Gibson's best, in my opinion.
It's one of the only guitars I didn't feel like I needed to change something on. It's my work horse.

The neck sounds even better with the lovepedal tchula for slightly broken up tones. Blues tones and R&B I used it yesterday at church and man what a tone! I never would have thought I would like a SG!! But I was wrong once again!
