Which tube is the reverb driver on a Maz 8? Oh, and as long as I'm asking, what are the functions of the other pre-amp tubes?
Thanks

Thanks, Steve. I've got a couple of ax7's and at7's in my tube stash. I'll give them a try later today.

I think the common theme is that anyone grew up with Fender amps and know "that" reverb sound are disappointed with the some of the Z amps verb. The reverb is there, just not "Fender" verb. On the flip side you can get a variety of tones from a Z amp - but Fender does Fender. I use a reverb pedal to get "more" verb from my 8 if needed, then then I also use that same pedal with my Cure which doesn't come with verb. There are plenty of good verb pedals to choose from for extra surf or ambient tones if needed. And on another note, it is always great to have extra tubes on hand - good call on your part!!

Yup, I've got a couple of reverb pedals to try also, but it kinda defeats the purpose of having built-in reverb if you can't use it......

OK, tube swapping over; here are the results......first tried an at7 and did notice a slight increase in 'verb. Then an ax7 and, again more 'verb than with the at7. Neither tube caused any more noise than the original au7 that was in the amp. FWIW, my settings are volume and master at 3 o'clock, treble and bass at 12 o'clock, mids 0 (I hate mids) cut control 0, adds too much treble, and hiss, for me. I play nothing but Teles, Strats or Gibby's with P90's. I know I will never get Fender-like 'verb out of the amp, that's why I have a hand-wired DRRI if I want to surf. But there is more reverb than before, so I'm a happy camper.
