I just bought a used Nova a few weeks ago and just noticed that it has 6L6’s in it. I know they’re very close to the original in 5881’s that the Nova would have came with stock, but is it ok that they’re being used in the Nova?
Also, what are the tonal differences between the 2 would you get out of the Nova for each?

As long as they’re biased correctly it shouldn’t be a problem. Sound wise, I couldn’t comment on the Nova as unfortunately I don’t yet have one. But generally speaking the 6L6s have more of a scooped overall tone and deeper low end response. Bet they sound great in there.

Mine has the stock 7591 tubes and once I got used to them, it is now my favorite amp! Also have a spare set of 7591.

Does anyone know what the bias of the Nova should be with 6L6’s?

Plate dissipation on both the 6l6 and 5881 is 30W, so both should be 28mA on the Nova per the Dr Z website.
