I have been asking in other threads "What speaker do you use" question. Just a general curiosity as to what people are using. It is now the Z-Wreck Jr's turn. I have a 1x12 Baltic birch convertible/ported fixed baffle cab with a Eminence Red Fang.

I’m using some blue frame Scumback 10”. One is a greenback and the other an anniversary - both celestion like speakers. I like the set up enough I haven’t even bothered trying others, but surely will. I’m not a fan of the Red Fang, though I have a ten with my Ghia at the moment… they are pretty out front and aggressive. Very little softness or subtlety IMHO.

I like the RF 12" much better then the RF 10"s (which I no longer have.) They were not bad but I just never bonded with them.

Today I went around the room and hooked up the Z-Wreck Jr into different speakers.
The winners: the 1x12 Baltic birch convertible/ported fixed baffle cab with a Eminence Red Fang, the 2x10 solid pine, open back, Baltic birch floating baffle loaded with Eminence LEGEND 1028K alnicos cab and the Jetta's Celestion G12 H30!
The honorable mentions: the Maz 8's Z-12, the Carmen Ghia's Celseion Blue, the 2x12 closed back Baltic birch floating baffle cab with Eminence LEGEND GB128 and the solid pine, open back, Baltic birch floating baffle loaded with 1x15 Celestion G15V-100 Fullback cab.

After a lot of A/B testing I decided to make a few changes. I am getting a Greenback for my Z-Wreck Jr and moving my 12" Red Fang out of my 1x12 cab and into the Maz 8. The Z speaker was really good with the Maz but I just liked the Alnicos better with the Maz. I can still hook up either the Red Fang or my Blue with the Z-Wreck Jr if I miss the sound. Looking forward to seeing how the Greenback sounds with the Jr.

The Greenback came in today and I swapped everything. The Greenback is not even broken in and I already like it better with the Z-Wreck Jr than the Red Fang. The Red Fang sounds great with the Maz-8. The Red Fang being in a different cabinet required some tweaks to the tone stack. A little less treble and a little more bass and roll the cut a little more. Very happy with how they both sound.

I have around 10 hours of high volume time on the Combo. The GB is just "starting" to even out a tinny bit. It sounds great, but I can wait for another 10-20 hours. Going to try the Heritage H30 from my Swart sometime. That sucker has a zillion hours on it.

Actually played the H30 55hz today. Had the combo more than a year... The H30 has some girth, and crunch, but no real top like the Greenback. Played it less than 5min. The Greenback just works...

I have run the Z Wreck Jr through an alnico blue and it did sound very nice, but there is something about the Greenback that is hard to beat. Up above (my Nov 2 post) you can see what I thought about the speakers I had in their cabinets. One way to find out is to get the Jr. It is a great amp that you cant go wrong with having.

Played my Jr into a Gold today. The one in my DB4 combo. Sounded nice. I could see it not working for some though. Not as deep. Interesting midrange, and a very top high end that might stand out too much for some. The GB is still the best to my ear. The extra 3db was nice with the Gold though.

When I had my Wreck Jr, I did the speaker swap game and ended up putting the stock Greenback back in. I felt it was the most balanced of the 3 I tried.
Blue - I liked the extra low end, fullness, and added "chime", but there's some amps that the AlNiCo sound almost seems too 3-D with....This worked well for cleans and that "edge of breakup" tone, but dirt pedals just don't work as well.
Creamback - A little too dark for my needs, especially when compared to the Greenback (and Blue).
Greenback - This was a good blend that worked well for clean and dirty settings/pedals.
I can see a Red Fang being a good choice....It's a little more beefy sounding than a Blue with a slightly rolled off top end that would help with dirt pedals, but still give that AlNiCo chime we all love.

Had mine for a few days and sounds fantastic with the Greenback, and Scumback H55 PVC and Scumnico. Honestly have a hard time choosing a favorite.

G12M-65 Creamback. I also have a Warehouse Green Beret that I am going to pair with it when my 2x12 cab gets here.

After flirting with a few ToneTubby 12’s… I pulled the old Celestion Blue out… man does that spank! Not sure it will work in the band mix, but sounds great right now!

Thread is old, but I figured I would add my thoughts after my experience with my Z Wreck Jr over the last couple weeks.
I bought a new Z Wreck Jr Combo with the greenback in it. The amp was great, but I felt it was a little flubby in the lows. I have a 2008 Maz 38 with the G12H30 Anniversary in it. While the Anniversary can get a little "pokey" in the top end if you are too aggressive with the Treble and Cut controls on that amp, I have always felt that that speaker was one of the main reasons why that amp sounded so huge on stage and in rehearsal. I decided to buy a new Anniversary from Sweetwater (UK Made) and stick it in the Z Wreck Jr.
I was immediately blown away. The Anniversary gave me a larger volume increase than I expected (a good thing for me, maybe not a great thing for others who have close neighbors), but more impressively, the Anniversary added top end sparkle without being harsh, and added back some of that low-end thump I was missing with the greenback. The anniversary speaker isn't nearly broken in, and it was immediately an improvement. I highly recommend it with the Z Wreck Jr.
I love greenbacks in other cabs I have and I have used greenbacks to address some "boxiness" in other small combos with great results, but I feel that this particular amp in this particular cabinet sounds sounds much better with the Anniversary speaker!
