Its here!
So usually I can give you guys a reference point to start with, but since this didn't go in a Z i'll do my best.
I bought a 1961 Magnatone 440 from a friend that has had to for a long time. He wants some new gear and I always liked the amp so he made me an offer I could not refuse. Such a good offer that since I really didn't think the Celestion Blue was right for this amp I offered him the speaker back to do with what ever he wants.
So the amp had a Blue in it, and if you have ever played an old Magnatone you have to get them wound up to make them really open up and get a bit of dirt going naturally. The Celestion was cool, but it wasn't "American" sounding and lacked any low end and just had too much character going on. I put the A Type in and didn't change any settings on the amp, it sounded glorious right out of the box. Plenty of Bass, Highs that had a smooth sparkle to them, and a relaxed mid range. It sounds like they made and EV with character and dynamics, it gives unlike an EV, and when you hit it with an overdrive you are going to hear the difference in every pedal you put in front of it.
If you like Celestion Speakers you will love this speaker, it it different yet familiar if that makes sense.

I've got one in a Carr Skylark. It's generally celebrated as a great speaker in that amp, however I've never taken it out and/or compared it versus another speaker to really make an evaluation. (So, sorry not hugely helpful.) It does seem to have a good amount of snap to it, yet also supports a tweedy "American" crunch, as well. Seems to handle the blend of tweed + blackface tones pretty well.

Well I think it should be here tomorrow. The amp is on the bench and ready.

Lookin' forward to hearing your opine on it, bubs! Ya know...I'm usually satisfied with my speakers until you unearth a new gem ... Did you decide that you like the V Jr speaker? I dig mine, they are fine 10s.

I do, I have them in my Mathers 2x10 Shorty. I have this odd duck 2x10 that I got with the last Z28 I purchased that has one ported 10 and one open back 10. It came with a Jensen (pulled it out) and an Eminence Ramrod. I bought another Ramrod and that didn't work so I put the Alnico Red Fang in the open back side. That cab kills and I have basically zero dollars in it. The A Type should be here today, I have a party to attend tonight, but I hope to get to it asap.

That is a great sounding speaker... Just watched Pete Thorn’s demo of it on Celestion’s site too, and I think that speaker sounds great. Might have to try one out.

I put a Type A in a used Avatar/Orange-type cab that I had configured into an open-back (1X12)...it sounded ok but really sounded much better with the original closed-back re-installed. I too bought it based on the Thorn demo. Nice full tone and definition...no complaints.
