I've decided to move on from the Z 10s in my 2x10 cab, mostly to bring the cab down to 4 ohms (or as an 8 ohm 1x10) so I can use it with all of my amps. I've had a 12" CR for many years and have liked it as a stand alone as well as in a 2x12, especially with the Gold.
Anyone have any experience with the CR 10s, either by themselves or matched up with something else? Thanks in advance.

This must be a new speaker..? Eminence has had the Lil' Buddy for a long time, which was their 10" hemp-cone speaker. Looks like the new CR 10" might be a bigger-magnet version of that? (I mean, how many different 10" hemp cones could they have?) Interesting; sorry though, I have no direct experience with it.

Thanks Mark. If it's a new speaker, that might explain why I could find almost nothing out there except the Emi blurb. I guess I'll get a chance to review them at some point as I just ordered a pair.

I was stuck on the 12" CR for a while, but I cannot image it as a 10". Its a smooth smoky sound already and the 10" versions of 12" speakers tend to be more mid focused with even less high frequency. This is one that I have not tried, and at $80 Shipped the Risk/Reward ratio is pretty decent.
If you try it , let us know how it turns out. I wouldn't mind doing a shootout between the CR and the RC 10".

I have the Lil Buddy in my Rivera-era Fender Champ II and really like it. I don't think the 10" CR was out yet when I bought it though. I too like the 12" CR and only replaced mine with the Lil Tex Neo to shave off some weight. I wish Eminence would come out with a 10" version of the Lil Tex Neo.
Looking forward to your review Ridge.

Transplant surgery complete. Very preliminary impressions. Tele => Flint => Z-28 => cab. Slightly louder (as expected) given the sensitivity difference. About 1 hour lower on the volume knob to get the same volume as the Z-10s. Very good note definition and clarity in all positions.
edited to add a mini update now that I have spent a bit more time with them. I can't find any fault with the Emi official description "Clean and full, with lots of body and sparkle. Smokey smooth with high-end definition."

It's taken almost six months but I have now played every guitar and amp combination I own through the C-Rex loaded 2x10 Z cab. It's time for some final observations. I'm a believer in speaker break-in but these didn't really change too much during the 150-200 hours of clean, basement volume playing. They could be dialed in to sound good with every guitar and pickup combination. Not a neutral speaker by any means, but pretty well balanced with nice highs and lows.
They showed the biggest improvement over the Z-10s with the EZG-50 and the Therapy. The Z-28 sounded great through both the C-Rex's and the Z-10s.
As with anything tone related, it's a personal taste thing and YMMV.
