I have 3 or 4 Greenback clones, all higher power ratings. Since getting a Z-28 I though it would be good to try it with these speakers, but I didn't have any type of real Celestion Greenback to use as a basepoint. So what does a guy do that already has a great big pile of speakers? I ordered a new Greenback to compare the high power copies I have to it.
It's a brand-new English made, regular non-Heritage. I ran about 30 hours of pretty loud iTunes music through it. The copies all have dozens or hundreds of hours on them.
So far, I've only compared the Greenback to a WGS Invader and the 65 Watt Creamback. I'll update the thread as I get the ambition, probably later this week.
Greenback: Sounds really good. I'm a bit surprised some people aren't happy with this speaker, but different strokes for different folks. The new GB sounds pretty clear and has a lot of character.
Creamback 65: I didn't care for this speaker, with the Z-28 at all. It seems to be missing a lot of mids and I didn't think it was very clear sounding. I'm surprised how different it sounds from the Greenback since the claim is that it is a higher power Greenback-type speaker. I do like the Creamback 65 a lot with a Maz Jr. though.
WGS Invader: I'm pleasantly surprised with this speaker. I had to adjust the lows and highs slightly, but was able to dial it in to sound very, very close to the Greenback. It's a little bigger and clearer sounding, but waaay closer in sound to the GB than the CB.
Up next will be a Scumback M75 65W. I don't expect it to sound too close to the new GB, as the Scumback is modeled after a pre-rola GB, which everyone says sounds different. However, I have the speaker and will be fun to try. I'm gueesing that even if it sounds different it will sound great.
After that, I believe I have a Weber GB clone that I'll try.
Stay tuned...

Never played an invader but the sound samples almost sound like an H magnet to me. Way more high end and lows than a typical M magnet.
The 65 Creamback is warmer, smoother, and fuller in the low mids. I love it for that reason. Probably all the things you are not loving about it.

I have a lot of experience with H magnet speakers. Celestion 70th Anniversary, Creamback H75, WGS Reaper and Reaper HP, Weber 1230. They don't have a lot of middle mids, which I do hear more of in the new GB and Invader. I do think the Creamback 65 has more lower mids, but not the Greenbacks mids right in the niddle. Again, this is specific to the Z-28. I do think the CB 65 has more mids and lower mids than H-type speakers. The Creamback, to me really seems like a speaker that is more between the H or M than similar to either. If someone were not to like an M or H Celestion, I might suggest they try the Creamback 65 and go from there to see which direction they might want to go if that didn't do it for them.

I think you are going to like the Scumback. I have it paired with a WGS Veteran 30 and they sound great together.

Bad news and bad news. 1- I forgot I had sold the Weber Greenback clone. 2- the Scumback is damaged to the point of not being useable. I'm going to contact them and see if they can repair it. So, the experiment is on hold for now.
