Hi Z fans,
I'm on the hunt for a Maz 18 Jr. NR and have seen a few listings of MK I amps that seem to come with some MK II features.
One I'm looking at is a 2011 model that has the updated MK II styling as well as the effects loop, EQ bypass and 4, 8 or 16 ohm speaker outputs.
What exactly is missing on this era of amp compared to MK II? Judging by the factory upgrade path it would probably be the updated master volume? Or maybe the EL84 alternative the doc switched to on the newer amps?
I'd probably send the amp for the full MK II upgrade at some point so I'd like to factor that into the sale price, or at least have an idea of what I'd be living without if I went for this over a MK II.
Thanks!

Best to hear from the Doc himself. When I got my Maz 18nr it was older than yours, but did have the MV. I loved the tone (it had a great set of tubes including some NOS preamp). I couldn’t wait to hear it with the mkii updates, it was still a great amp, but honestly being well cared for it didn’t advance the tone light years. I got a great deal on a 38 so I did what I never thought I would and sold the 18. I wouldn’t look at the mkii as an investment. I got more or at least sold it quicker than I think a mki would, but not what I paid plus the update. My 38 had the mkii done and I got it for less than I paid for the 18 pre update. You might hit the market right, but the more mkii Maz get sold used having the update isn’t going to be a huge draw.
