Interesting question. I never really thought about it. I feel mine is Marshall-like. But, that’s not an answer to your question. Now I’m curious.

I have heard a lot of different things. What is it? I'm not sure which amp, if any, the CG is modeled after. When you watch the following video it seems more that he had a platform (Hammond organ chassis) that he built the amp around. Whatever the answer is it's a great amp! Here's a pic of my CGs - the tweed covered Ghia on bottom left is one of the prototypes he used in going from Hammond chassis CG to his own chassis. The red on on top left is one of the original 50 Hammond chassis CG. The top right black CG is a somewhat unusual CG in that it uses a 12BH7 (identified on tube chart) and the "Tone" knob is labeled "Brite/Dark".

The Carmen Ghia IS a classic amp. What amps made today are based off of the classic Carmen Ghia?

The Carmen Ghia IS a classic amp. What amps made today are based off of the classic Carmen Ghia? Robben Ford is now playing an 15w amp with 2 EL84's and 2 knobs! He should just get a Carmen Ghia!

He indeed needs to try a Carmen Ghia.

The Carmen Ghia IS a classic amp. What amps made today are based off of the classic Carmen Ghia? No idea, tbh. It’s an interesting question in a way, but then, I’d rather just play/own an original since it leaves me wanting for nothing, and they’re still presently in production from the man himself; Not too many chances today to buy a brand new classic anything! I know there are a few Ghia clones (which is flattery through thievery), so possibly (speculating) there are other Ghia-inspired imitations too, or “Ghia-alikes,” or perhaps an overseas variant playing “JTM45” to the Ghia’s “Bassman?” IDK, but perhaps somebody else does?

I have heard a lot of different things. What is it? No, it's a relatively simple audio amplification circuit that was developed from the Hammond organ reverb unit chassis. More here:

I'm not sure if I need to replace another tube or two in my Maz Jr, but my 'Desert Island Amp' question has finally been answered, and it's my Ghia. I use it about 80% or 90% of the time these days. That simple little Hammond Organ based circuit sounds Great!

I love mine even with the other Z's in the house. I did put the Russian EL84's in and a 5v4. The 5v4 really made it more muscular and not so mushy. Sounds great with a Greenback, even beefier with the V Type. I could not be without my Brake Lite.

I've gone back and forth between running a 12AX7 and a 5751 phase inverter, right now I've got a 12AX7 in there. But you're so right about the Brake Lite. Even with the 10" Greenback in my little studio combo Ghia right now the Brake Lite lives on Click 2, and it sounds glorious. Such a great amp.

THe thing that draws me to Z’s is the originality of the designs. They “kinda sound like”, but they aren’t really that amp. The Ghia doesn’t sound like an AC15 nor does it sound like a Marshall 18 Watt. Thank goodness for that! 🤭

According to Myles Rose, the Carmen Ghia is very unique. Nothing like it in the world.

Howdy,
I can only compare the excellent CG to my '68 Vibro Champ. Yes, yes, I'm aware of all the technical differences, but the simplicity and the FUN are there in Spades for both amps.
