Well, finally pulled the chassis and started packing it up. Man, what a well made amp that is! THICK board, turrets, great lead dress, massive iron. I’m really nervous about sending it through the small package industry, but I’ll insure it and hope for the best. This must be what it’s like to send kids off to college. I’m gonna miss that amp, but hopefully only for a few weeks.

I was nervous as well sending it off but thankfully all went well and I hope the same for your Z-Lux! It will be worth it when you get it back safe and sound after the upgrades.

I've had a well-known tech buddy of mine note several times how well Z's stuff is put together. I sent my chassis off via FedEx a few weeks ago and all went well, if that's of any comfort, and I just got word that Don has shipped my chassis (and new cabinet!!) my way via UPS. Here's hoping all goes well!

Okay, it’s off to the mothership! Thanks for all of the good wishes. It’s double boxed and insured for what I hope is enough to replace the chassis should it be vaporized.
PS Doc, if you’re watching this thread, the initials inside the chassis are BA. Please give them a shout-out for the excellent build. It’s really impressive craftsmanship.

The chassis has arrived at the mothership! Condition unknown. I'll call Don in a couple of days to check on it.

Side note, besides the great amps, this has to be the coolest part about this business... how they stand by and support everything they've ever done, and on a really personal level too.

I'll turn you onto a customer service story of mine. Back around 2015 or so I had just bought a new Z-Lux and was having a problem with intermittent noise. As fate would have it, Mike had a Mini Z-Fest scheduled at the MuZeum, and Doc was coming. He called me and said if I was coming to bring my Z-Lux. He brought a whole new chassis from Cleveland and we met at Mike's place in Ann Arbor. Doc personally swapped out the chassis and impressed the heck outta me. There's a picture of him doing the repair floating around in the Z-Fest section somewhere, if memory serves.
Doc and the whole crew are the best in the business. He's become a dear friend over the years and I'm a customer for life. He's a great example of what integrity and constant attention to detail will do for success in any business. Thanks, Doc!

Well, given Doc’s build quality, I imagine actual repair work somewhat rare. But I can see Don busy with updates and restorals from hack jobs and bunk repairs by other techs. Also, recaps for older models and customizations for touring and pro musicians. But then again, amps do fall from vehicles, stages, get knocked around in fights, destroyed by shippers and the like and need to visit the mothership for rehab. And parts and components can fail. I’d really like to visit the shop sometime.

I’d really like to visit the shop sometime. I'll go with you and maybe with a little luck, we'll figure out how to run that thing that packs the amps in the boxes by noon! Or maybe we just get coffee and fetch lunch or something. We can initial chassis! We can yell at the UPS guy when he shows up! I have lots of experience pushing a broom too! Change strings on the tele! Pick up the 300 resistors under Don's desk and sort them! We can hijack the support email and really have some fun! We can answer phones!
