I can get a good deal on a 2014 Maz 18 NR...i had the little beast but briefly and I don’t remember much of it apart that I liked it. Is it manageable volume wise in a rehearsal space? I would use it as a pedal platform, so the amp would be clean but I want it to be live enough to be enjoyable. I rather not use an attenuator and being in Italy I can’t do the MV upgrade Thanks!!

It depends on how loud your band rehearses. Do you play in a metal band with a loud drummer? That may not be the best. But otherwise, I think you'll be fine. Especially since you'll use it as a pedal platform.

I've had at least one Maz Jr (with reverb) since 2005. I've also been in LOUD rock bands that whole time. I've never had the master all the way up and setup my amps to be clean, with no amp distortion. The Maz has always been able to do what I want with no issues being heard without mic'ing. I also happen to think the MK I Maz master volume is the best of any amp I've owned. I think the Maz Jr works great loud or quiet.

If your worried, there are Maz 38 out there for similar money. I rarely ever had my 18 anywhere near max, but I was looking for a studio cab and got a great deal on a Maz 38 with the mkii already done. I A/B'ed them and they were both awesome, but realized I actually really liked the extra head room. I've adjusted my drive section on my pedal board a little, but having the Master and a Volume really gets me where I need to go almost no matter what (unless I really want to slam the frontend at whisper volumes).

Probably I wasn’t clear...English isn’t my first language... Not worried about headroom or being loud enough...just if I can keep it down without killing anybody but being able to have a lively response from the amp

The original MAZ Master Volume was very nice. You'll be good. It's been one of Doc's best selling amps for many years, before the MK II upgrade. Great amp!

I’m only that low when everyone is sleeping and I’m testing drive pedals. Obviously the amp is going to wake up the more you get the tubes cooking, but it sounds good anywhere above whisper.

Had an ‘03 MAZ18 2x10. It was with me 15 years. It only left as it lost the weight war and was traded in on a Z-Plus. That MAZ was special, but your first is always in you heart. The character in that MAZ was marvelous until it was really close to off volume wise. I remember many nights engulfed in the sound of that amp at very reasonable ( apartment level) volume. YMMV. I feel confident it will satisfy your desire. If it’s a great deal, I’m not sure you can go wrong.

Try it and see. My MAZ Jr 2x10 came with a BrakeLite. It worked great. It wouldn't go down to bedroom volumes but it was great for practice and plenty loud enough to gig with.
I deeply regretted having to part with it, but my gigging prospects are nil and it was a heavy amp for my 71-year old body to tote and load into the car.

As long as you don’t require a significantly driven tone you’ll be just fine. I personally think the Jr. sounds great even at lower volumes but not everyone agrees with me. If you need a little more drive you can always throw a pedal in front of it. And don’t worry about it being the MK I version. We all thought it was great until the MK II came out. I have some of each and I still do think that!

Don't forget you can do a lot with the tone and cut controls on this amp. My Maz sounded great at any volume, but as the decibel levels go up and down, different frequencies are emphasized. You can do a lot of shaping with the tone controls and especially the cut control to keep your Maz sounding lively at almost any volume.
And if that doesn't work for you, the Brake Lite is a great attenuator which you can easily retrofit into a cab.
Also, FWIW, my first language is Gibberish, so don't sweat it. Your English skills are great.
