How does the saying go?...I'm not as young as I used to be but I'm not as old as I'm going to get either!
My goal was to downsize my current rig (Wreck or Germino Lead 55LV (or both) into their respective 2x12 cab) and still have an amazing sounding rig. I have a "much-modified" GDS (Marshall) 18w and decided to pair it with a Z Lux...or maybe the Lux will trump the GDS and take center stage solo...time will tell.
Here goes nuthin'...hold my beer!

Oh, you’ll love the Lux. Great choice, going to give mine a workout this weekend.

Do you know Graydon Stuckey of GDS? I've never met him in person but know him online. He, the owner of Revelations Amps in Austin (who I do know "in person") and I had fun with the GDS 18w. Josh (Revelation) turned the normal channel into a fire-breathing monster with a EC88/6DL4 (cascode) front end mod...wow, just WOW!

The good news: Z Lux has landed. :-)
The bad news: I've had less than ten minutes to play it. :-(
The "other" good news is we start a five-night run at a club tomorrow night so I'll have plenty of "play time" to get to know the amp...so...hold my beer and watch this!

Night #1 thoughts...
I was playing ALOT cleaner than I normally do. Vol=noon, Master=noon and mic'd with a SM-57. Plenty of positive feedback from FOH engineer and band. I used a SP Comp, Lightspeed and Timmy...all good tones. I spent most of the night playing the Huber but the 62 Tele and Nocaster made apperances too.
The amp has a 3D quality that I fell in love with...WOW!
I like the EQ-bypass / Lead boost...it came in handy several times.
...more to come...night #2 tonight.

It's such a great amp. When I play mine with my Big Band I tilt it back on a tilt leg I got from Mesa 20 years ago. It takes that 3D quality you mention and does it in spades. Fills the room with swirly goodness and never overwhelms the rest of the group.

Well....time to put a bow on this!
I ended up sending the Z Lux back...it just didn't give me "that" sound in my head...too many years with the Wreck, Route and Germino I suspect. I suppose I've become so comfortable with where the other amps "live" that it was difficult to break out of that box. The experiment before the Lux showed up was the Wreck through a 2x12 w/ greenbacks...I suspect that's why the Wreck Jr. has the following it does...great tones...going back to that for the private events coming up.
I really wanted the Lux to work...<sigh>...maybe another time.

Always a big disappointment when a piece of gear doesn't satisfy.

Always a big disappointment when a piece of gear doesn't satisfy. Not "big" but yes, a disappointment all the same. The amps in storage provided a "safety net" so no ground is lost...but yes, I do wish it would have worked out differently.

Kind of sounded like the ZLux was going to be a fairly significant “lane change” from what you’ve been playing.

IMHO you did great. You tried it, you liked it, you liked the sound. Just it was not the sound that you are used to and it was not the sound that you want / need. And since you already have other amps, only one thing left to do Rock On enjoy the music
