Howdy friends, new forum member. Just thought I'd show off my new Maz 18 Jr. MkII. I posted it to the Facebook group and they invited me over here, so I figured I check out the awesome community on the forum. It's my first Dr. Z amp...in fact, my first tube amp in about 4 years after a long love affair with the Kemper, which I still love for certain applications. But I missed the feel of tubes and so I went on a search for the right one. A 1x12 EL-84 combo was my target. I thought I'd end up with a Morgan, Matchless, or Bad Cat, but the Maz 18 won me over. I was shocked at how versatile this thing is. It can get me pretty darn close to that EL-84 Voxy chime, but can also get into Blackface territory. Simply stellar!

That blackout IS sharp looking. One of my favorite Z amps.

Welcome to the Forum - a lot of great people and info here! Congrats on your new amp. The Maz 18 is Doc's all-time best-selling amp for a reason. It's a Swiss Army knife of amps! Here's a link to a great page of Maz 18 settings that is really useful to new owners (as, usual - thanks Mike for providing this for all!) michaelgiliberto.com/music

The 18 is really a great amp, I know I can always get a great tone from it. A lot of amps make it hard to dial in your favorite tone. The Maz makes it hard to dial in a bad tone.

Congratulations for a great purchase decision. Unfortunately, I sold my MAZ 18 Jr 2x10 for lack of space in new residence.
FWIW: I sold my serviced '69 Super Reverb as well for the same reasons.
Two wonderful amps that I hated to part with.
Enjoy your MAZ. As @premiumdave said, "The Maz makes it hard to dial in a bad tone."

Congrats!!
I'm going to give a shortened version of my original thoughts on the Maz 18, then my later thoughts.
Originally, I jumped into Z amps (with luck and good trades) with a couple of the Flagship amps, the RxES and StangRay back in 2006 - and LOVED those amps!! I kind of felt like the Maz 18 was the "poor mans" Z amp and wished people that owned those could play a REAL Z amp or the top-dogs of the Z amp line.
A few years later, I traded something for a Maz 18 NR (non-reverb model) with full intentions of flipping it ASAP....Then I played it! I kept that amp for 2 or 3 years and it was my #1 the entire time. For some reason, like an idiot, I ended up trading it for something else and missed it more than I though I would. That was about 8 or 9 years ago
A few years ago, I found another Maz 18, locally, and had a 65amps that I traded for it. A couple months later, I sent it in for the Mk.II update. When I got it back, what I though was a GREAT amp was now probably the best and most favorite amp I've ever owned!
I totally, 150% regret anything I've ever thought about the Maz line of amps, they are amazing amps and I think they are a landmark in tone for the Z amp line and should go down in history as being just about the most perfect amp ever made.
For reference, I've had almost every EL84 amp that Dr. Z has put out, including the (full size) Z-Wreck. Along with about every other boutique amp maker's top of the line amps: Bad Cat, TopHat, Morgan, ect...
So, what I'm saying is: congrats on the amp!!

Howdy...I’m new too...just trade a ‘65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue and a DSL40C for a Maz Jr NR which has had the MKii upgrade. Only had it for a couple of days but really digging the versatility. It weighs a ton (51 lbs) but beats out my other amp, a VASA CR20 on everything but blackface cleans. Definitely loving it for the British stuff and think I have found my keeper after going through the usual Marshall and Vox suspects. Lot of fun!

...and glad you sold the DRRI so quick! Yeah. I bought one new and it is by far the amp I hate the most. I still have it and it never gets played. Had it modded, then put back stock, it just sucks. I've tried every pedal I own into it and everyone of them sounds like arse. No offense to anyone who owns one, and I'm sure they sold a ton, but that thing is just the worst amp of all time. Keith from 5 watt did a video today about it maybe being the best amp ever and all I can think is people who like it must being missing about 40db at 6khz or something. I have heard an old one live played by a great player, but even then it wasn't all that great. Too anyone who may see this and think that's the ticket, please just do yourself a favor and get that out of your head.
