...with 2k in his pocket and intentions of spending it on an acoustic guitar. The shop owner proceeds to show him various guitars in that price range. The owner, at the last minute, says “hey, try this and tell me what you think.”
The guy trying the guitar is blown away. The tone is crisp and punchy yet balanced and full sounding. He says, “what is this and how much is it?”
The owner says “it’s a guild ds-240 with solid mahogany back and sides and a Sitka spruce top. It costs $500.”
The buyer leaves the shop with a terrific sounding guitar. Spends $119 on a set up and bone saddle (from his own tech) and puts $1400 back into his bank account.
Seriously, this guild sounds amazing and it now plays beautifully. If you are looking for a great guitar for not a lot of money give this a try!

I always thought Guild acoustics were brutally underrated. Good catch!

I actually remember trying a Guild when searching for my "Acoustic" to upgrade from my $250 guitar. And, I liked it. But, no one else ever showed me one. Congrats! Enjoy!

In the Willcut vs Elderly thread I described my similar encounter in a shop in the summer of 1978 that led to my purchase of a Guild F50R - amazing guitar and still amazing 43 years later

Do I hear a weekend filled with booze, women and gambling calling you?

I like bourbon and have become somewhat of a collector, my 15 and 13 year old are just learning to play Texas hold ‘em and I love my lovely wife more every day. So I guess the answer is a resounding YES!

Many years ago, I played a guild that was a bit more than I wanted to spend. Went back the next day to buy it anyway, it was that good. Took it off the wall and Played again and it didn’t feel right. It wasn’t. Someone played the same guitar and walked out with it later the previous day. I have many nice guitars, Taylor, Gibson and Martin, but that is the one that got away!

I've played a couple really nice Guilds, good catch. I always have the opposite, go in looking for something in a budget. After five minutes I get smelled out as a guy who knows about nicer guitars and I end up playing something expensive that leaves me crying myself to sleep for a week.

Years ago I had an amazing guild acoustic, had to sell it at that time. Anyway I believe in trying guitars without knowing the price if possible and choosing the one I bond with. Sometimes it’s the least expensive and sometimes the most expensive.case in point, I have a Tom anderson tele, expensive and worth it. I also have a parts caster very inexpensive and sound and plays great also. I have to admit I switched out the pickups
