Hey fellas,
Have any of you ever played a Moderne? I'm thinking about getting myself a Christmas toy, and for $599 I can get this...I've always thought they were kind of cool but I've never played one. The clips I see make them sound pretty good, thoughts?

I'll let you know when I get it. Nobody else is buying me presents this year so I'm buying a new toy! The Gibby ones start around $1500 and that's too much coin for a toy. It may surprise me, I bought an Epi Flying V a couple of years ago on a whim and it's turned out to be a fine guitar. Nicely made, and light. I hope lightning strikes twice.

Nobody's into funky pointy guitars? My Explorer and Flying V have been nudging me to get a Moderne for a couple of years now, looks like it's gonna be a fun knock-around. Something to take on trips or shock the Big Band fellas with when we finally re-form the band.

I always thought that Gibson design was pretty cool.

I hope lightning strikes twice. When I got my 2019 335, I was so impressed with it that I figured Gibson really turned it around at that year and picked up an SG which sounded terrible, a real dud. Hope yours is a winner!

I say go for it. It’s a slab of mahogany that you can update as needed. If it arrives in need of a fret level and crown, have at it. Pickups, break out the iron and see what’s in the parts drawer or hit helmi (Martin) up for some good coils. He’s done me right a few times.

It came this afternoon, and it's a blast to play. I oiled the fingerboard and restrung it, set the intonation and action. Great neck, good fretwork, and sounds really nice. The really cool thing is that it weighs only 6 1/2 pounds. $600, Merry Christmas to me! Check it out:

I've always loved the Flying V...loved the way it looks....but I hate the way it feels. Awkward and imbalanced. WAY too light too. (or at least the one's I've played...which isn't many) I feel the same way about the SG. Looks cool, but too light, too thin and WAY too neck heavy for me. It feels imbalanced.
But I dig your new geetar...

I have the same opinion of the SG. I’ll never own one.
