Hey all, I am finishing up this set neck Strat style guitar. We hand wound the minibuckers (our new adventure is called Greenville) in our shop and I am really pleased at how they turned out. I finished setting up the guitar yesterday. I used Gotoh tuners and bridge and a custom made pickguard to accommodate the mini buckers. 3 way selector switch with master volume and 2 tone controls. Sounds killer, so good in fact that my son Joshua asked if I could find a mini bucker pickguard for his SG! The neck pickup has a great strat vibe to it, sings really nice with great sustain. The bridge is warmer with less attack but very articulate. Nice combination. Not sure if we are going to sell or keep this one yet. here are some progress pictures and then the final product.

Looks great, love the color. Those swimming pool routes make switching out pickups and guards a dream. Tell Joshua I would recommend a mini-humbucker in the neck and full sized in the bridge on an SG. If his SG doesn't currently have a pickguard with cutouts for the pickups, there are conversion pickup rings out there that are full humbucker size but are cut out for a mini.

Love mini humbuckers. That looks like a fun guitar, that’s for sure.

I agree with a regular size bridge humbucker in a SG,and a mini in the neck. I had a tribute SG with 2 mini humbuckers, and just never bonded with the bridge tone always sounded too bright for me.

The nice thing about winding our own pickup is I have more control over how the pickups will sound. I over wound the bridge pickup a pick to help take the knife edge off the high end. I like the adapter ring idea, we'll check that out.

Are you going to be selling those mini hb's? asking for a friend I have dreams of a single mini HB guitar with the pup halfway between the middle and bridge position.

That really looks great, Todd. I love the color, I've always wanted a guitar like that...I bet it's killer in person. You've gotta bring it next time you and Josh come visit!
