Discovered a microphonic tube in V2 today. I've noticed the amp acting kind of weird the past couple days. Then when I was playing this evening and noticed kind of a "plinking" sound when I hit a few notes and pretty much when I was hitting the same notes. So, tested the preamp tubes and sure enough V2 was the culprit. Welp, that's why you keep plenty of spares around. Ha! I guess the joys of having a tube amp. Wouldn't trade it for anything though.

I have sooo many spare tubes it isn't even funny. I feel like, even if all the good tubes went away, I'd still use crappy tubes before a solid state amp. I see people rave about the Helix system. A buddy of mine has one and I think it sounds terrible. Maybe a Kemper. I saw The Outlaws a few years back and the dude playing the red Les Paul had a Kemper and it did sound really good, but that was through a PA with a professional sound guy that probably had a lot of stuff going on through the system.

When I saw Diamond Rio last year, Jimmy Olander used a Kemper. I didn't see a guitar cab so it may have been running direct. It did sound good, but I agree.....they had pro level sound gear and a Soundman that most likely traveled with the band. I'll keep my Cure as well!
