Hi folks! Totally new here but the Z-family seems like a great community, which I hope to join soon by the help of some of you guys!
My question is quite simple, is it possible to easily change out a Maz combo's speaker baffle? There's a local dealer that has a few Maz 38 combo's available but the ones I reaaaally like the look of (with the Z-wreck grill and such) all have a 1x12 speaker configuration. I'm more of a 10" kinda guy because I really love the punch and tightness they deliver, so I was hoping I could buy a 1x12 combo and have a new baffle made by Zilla cabs for instance, and swap them out.
Thanks! Elon

Thanks! Elon Elon, I'm pretty sure you can make that work, however, it is highly unlikely that Zilla can get their hands on the Z-Wreck Grill cloth. I think that is almost exclusive to Z-Amps. I recommend sending a note to the Dr. Z or repairs to start that dialogue. If you have a local dealer that has a Maz 38 Mark II with Z-Wreck Cloth, I would snag it and live with the good tone, don't look back and don't worry about 2 x 10's.

Well I was actually thinking of having them only build the wooden baffle, and transfer the grill cloth and piping myself.

Just exercise patience and care. Take your time. Loved the 2x10 with my Maz.

Are the amps at the dealer new? If yes, why not have the dealer order a new one from the Z shop for the same price.

Welcome to the forum. I recently removed the baffle from a Z 2x10 speaker cab to change the grille cloth and it was easy (four screws). I don't know if the combo cabs are constructed similarly, given that they also have a valence. It has been many years since I owned a Z combo. If no one here responds with the info, it should be easy to shine a flashlight in back of the the one you like and see how the baffle\valence is attached.
As Keith said, if buying new save the hassle and order exactly what you want.

They're new, but the store is selling them at an extremely nice discounted price due to Covid, so a new one will be considerably more expensive. Having a new baffle built and buying two new 10" speakers will still save me some money. The store's also a bit reluctant to do any new orders at the moment because sales have been really hard up until now and they still have a large stock available.

Removing the baffle is easy. It is just attached with screws. Now swapping that grill cloth over to another baffle might be difficult. Once it has been trimmed after the first installation there is not much to hang onto to stretch it when remounting it. I have never tried that and would not care to either. I converted a JAZ 1x12 to a 2x10 by purchasing a complete grill from Z Service. They just happened to have an extra laying about. I'm not sure they do that anymore but it can't hurt to ask. THAT would be the easiest way to make that switch.
