Got to play a ZWJR this weekend. So great. It was a surprising experience though. Or maybe better said, not what I was expecting. I've never played the big Z Wreck either, so I did have probably a little too much anticipation built up around it Here are my take aways. 1) The legends are true. The cleanup is amazing. With volume at 2 o clock, the crunch is fantastic. Roll your guitar volume back to 7 and the cleans are there. So good. 2) This thing ROCKS. Maybe due to the Greenback, but this thing rocks so much harder than any Vox I've heard. If you open it up and hit it hard - the top is smooth but present, and lows don't flub. A great sound! 3) It's plenty loud...or quiet. With the MV dimed and volume set at 10 o clock, I was actually surprised at how quiet it was. That said, things really pick up from there. At 2 o clock the thing roars. Never felt a need to push it past that. Cleans up great at that spot on the volume knob too. 4) Manageable highs. I actually ran the CUT wide open, and would have still welcomed more highs. Mind you, I play an RXJR, and that thing can cut glass. So my "normal" may be atypical. I guess I expected the ZWJR to be BRIGHT based on demos, but the highs were never shrill, even with the treble at 2 o clock and cut wide open. Maybe due to the greenback? I did get to run it through a G12H and that gave a little more bite up top. Wish I would have had a blue on hand to try it through. If I were going for more of the Paisley thing, I'd prob run the gain at about 11 o clock, with a Blue for a little more push and volume at that setting. Fantastic amp. There will be a Wreck in my future.
