Well, NGD yesterday. My local shop had one of these coming, so I asked for a call. When I played it, I bought it. I've always wanted another hollow-body but I never could get behind a new 335 or similar. THIS definitely got my attention, especially the price for the SE version. Pic from the PRS website. This thing plays like butter, and sounds freaking amazing through the Nova. I haven't tried it through the Ghia or Z-Lux yet. Can't get it out of the Nova!

When I started playing electric again in '89 I wanted to replace the guitars of my youth - one of which was a nice pre 70's burst 335. When I went shopping around I found out very quickly that I wasn't going to buy new, or could I afford to buy old. So I did what you just did Steve and bought a McCarty Hollowbody and dropped a Lollar Imperial reg wind in the bridge and a low wind in the neck. $350.00 in pickups along with a $1,600.00 guitar and I have not been more pleased. Congrats on your new acquisition!

I read some reviews of those and they were stellar. As a PRS guy, I have to say that in many cases the difference in price between a regular PRS and an SE version, may not always be worth it. Now to wait until they start showing up used in 9 months or so. Keep us posted.

Very nice, Steve.
I've been very pleased with the SEs I've played. Yours looks killer.

I think you have me backwards, or maybe I have what you said above backwards. What I meant was that the price of the "regular" PRS isn't worth how much more you have to pay to get one of them compared to how much guitar you get for the SE price. In this case you are getting lots more guitar at the SE price versus how much more you would get at that yikes price.

This SE sounds pretty freaking good, so that extra $4K to get to the USA model doesn't really add much to the sound.

Nice! I wish they made that model in a lefty. Took me all this time to realize that I think they have lefty models at the left hand piano store.

benttop (Steve) , I don't know how I missed this "NGD" post... from over a year ago! A huge PRS fanboy myself, I must offer my belated congratulations on your SE Hollowbody. If you don't mind me asking 1 year post-purchase, are you still loving the guitar? I've been through several PRS's myself (gee, thanks Don ) and there's not much left for me to try except a Hollowbody II next. The USA/core ones are nothing short of mind-blowing, I'm sure (they ought to be, for the price). But I'm still trying to gauge the perceived greatness of these SE's vs. the uber-top-eschelon core models, or a real-deal ES-335, etc.

It looks great, plays great, sounds great (although different from all of my other guitars - a good thing), and the cost is astonishing for the quality. I suppose if I had a spare $5K laying around it would be cool to get the USA model, but this was just over 20% of that price.
Yeah, I'm still digging it, when I get an instrument out.
